I just think that there were a few better all around players, that won in era's with more legendary competition. Ppl always forget MJ, the early years, when Magic, Bird and Isiah were around, before Jordan was the golden goose that got all the calls and got roughed up bad, he couldnt beat those teams, his era was AFTER those guys were either pretty old, or flat out retired. MJ is still one of the best ever, but i put Magic and Bird a step ahead in terms of Bball IQ and making ppl better all around them, versatility. Again, just my opinion from what i watched growing up, many feel different and often feel offended like it's blasphemy to not believe MJ was the best, and most feel this way because of pop culture and the icon he is.

MJ had to go up against Bird and drained a gamewinner against them in the finals. even Bird said that MJ was the greatest, also magic even said that MJ is the greatest offensive and defensive threat of all time. MJ's era was tough as well, Patrick Ewing, Bird, Magic Hakeem Olajuwon, a prime Gary Payton, young shaq and some other greats. Isiah was good, but never close to MJ. he was probably the Chris Paul of that era but nothing more. just because you get calls doesn't take away your greatness, its not like refs would give Jordan game winners.

I think you mean Jordan and the Bulls beat the Lakers? Because Boston and Chicago are both in the east?? Im not denying Jordan was one the greatest ever, and i dont think Isiah is in the class of Bird and Magic, that was my favorite era and a much more hardnosed era. Magic could literally play every position on the floor, was the greatest passer ive ever seen, and could score effortlessly but choose to make everybody around him better on top of that played a very fun style to watch, he is my GOAT, its opinion you cant really take anything away from either player. Magic also said Bird was the best. Bird said Magic was the best, classy guys will say classy things, Jordan on the other hand, wasnt the classiest guy which adds to my dislike of him. He was definately amazing tho.

here's how great michael jordan was

1992-93 chicago bulls 57-25 NBA championships with michael jordan

1993-94 chicago bulls 55-27 lost in game 7 of the ECF with no michael jordan

if he was sooo great, how could his team win two less games in the regular season and come one game short of the finals with only a rookie toni kukoc as his replacement.

jordan's greatness comes with a pair of nikes and a big fat television contract

i'd call jordan the greatest scorer of all-time, or maybe the greatest smartest scorer since he didn't really have that great of a jumper.

You forget that Jordan was one of the best defenders of his time

The reason why the Bulls only lost 2 more games is because Phil Jackson was still coach and Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant and B.J. Armstrong (all all stars) were still on the team/

You forget when MJ came back the Bulls were 72-10 in the 95-96 season

pre-1990, maybe. after then jordan defended 4th-5th options. you're old, so you'll probably remember when the lakers and bulls faced one another. do you remember jordan trying to man up saying how he wanted to guard magic johnson? do you remember game two when it became pippen's full-time job?

damn right. the lack of credit they received is the reason i cannot stand jordan....that and numerous other reasons of course.

ehhh it is kinda pointless to argue about it... Everyone has its own favorite and if it is yours magic or bird so be it, jump the i am smartest wagon and let other delusional ppl think their own way . Just to clarify, Brid and Magic both where in inferior positions - they were sorounded with Parish,Mchale,Ainge,Johnson(Bird) and Jabbar(Perkins),Green,Worthy,Cooper,Scott(Magic) - clearly too strong teams for either one to jump out like MJ did eventhough they did but.... still they have less rings if i do recall right.

It's all opinionated, but nobody can tell me the media hasnt added to Jordan's legacy more then any player in the history of any sport. Hell they made him out to be a saint when he is really a douchebag.

Thats the thing media made him the way he was, but they also did it to Bird and Magic and every other player. They are doing it now to LBJ, as the league needs ppl who sell.
I personaly dont think noone is greatest, as the game is beautifull only when played as a team.

We will never know who is GOAT for sure unless we find a guy with 3cm glasses who will lay u out all the posible statistics and even then it will still be preferencial. I remember 96-97 somewhere along those years, Grant Hill had great season and the media where extatic, Hill was jumping from everywhere, and some writer was compareing his scores with MJs, and saying that Hill is next superstar that will carry the league after MJ goes.
We had Shaq, Kobe and now LBJ to do it... It is all about the money, i dont think that when he wakes up in the morning and sees 100+mil dollars, he is sad or anything, just a big fat smile.. only us fans care about those thingies

What I don't understand with regards to this whole "Michael Jordan wasn't the best ever" stuff is that Magic Johnson admitted that he was. Athletes have a lot of pride and competitiveness, so why would he admit that?

Jordan was good, dont get me wrong... but he was all media hype. Nike, gatorade, even the NBA created his legacy. they created his persona and they made billions because of it.

best of all time? nope.
best advertised and created athlete of all time? yep.

the one thing i actually like about MJ is that he had class when he dealt with the media and the world outside of basketball. its something the stars nowadays need to take note of becuase the majority of them are classless.
but all of this helped create the image of MJ. a walkning billboard.
in reality Jordan is a snake.

magic also called bird the greatest

bird called magic the greatest

it's a respect thing

there was no greatest because they all equally hold their spot in history - just magic moreso
