D'Antoni accepts Knicks' offer
An NBA source close to the situation told The Boston Globe today that Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni has accepted the New York Knicks head coaching job.
Despite having two years and $8.5 million on his deal with the Suns, D'Antoni was given permission by the team to interview for openings with the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls.
D'Antoni has a career record of 267-172 after coaching Phoenix for four seasons and Denver in one.

Only thing I can think to say is

It will be interesting to see how this plays out

What will they do with Curry and Marbury in D'antoni's system?

And will this open opportunities for us to get a good package in NY for TJ?

He's smart, they'll love him, he can't be any worse than Zeek was.

The MVP of West Hollywood 05-10-2008 06:24 PM

What thriller said.

Curry and Randolph trying to play Suns ball while D'Antoni screams like a cartoon character on the sidelines? This is going to be the funniest shit of all time. :haha:

All they have to do is take Ford from us (which is not unplausable if they want to speed up the team), and the Knicks masterpiece will be complete.

This is bullshit
i fucking hate d'antoni
hes doing this for the fucking money
not because he wants to coach that scrub 1 to 15 knick squad
cant wait to see his ass get booed when he goes to play phoenix

Toebee 05-11-2008 08:09 PM

Makes no sense to me why he went there. NY is a different kind of monster.

INSIDER 05-11-2008 08:14 PM

yikes, what an idiot...
he's a fraud and now everyoe will see it.
he's a shit coach.

Benzo 05-11-2008 11:53 PM

The Knicks will be better for it.

maybe because they can't be worse.

dfunkie1 05-12-2008 12:19 AM

strangely it's every coaches and players dream to be under the big lights of MSG. you'd think they would have maybe squeezed a championship out of that over the past nine million years.

Raptorman 05-12-2008 10:58 AM

If he can make that cast of misfits into a team, he gets COY.

I love watching the Knicks. If MVP is correct, I may have to drive down to a game.

haha ... I love it .... a true test to see if D'Antoni is really that good of a coach. Let's see if he can make shit shine. ;)

INSIDER 05-12-2008 01:08 PM

he'll be exposed as a fraud...
phoenix played into his run n' gun sytem... and it worked like a charm.
what the hell is he going to do with NY?

MangoKidHoops 05-12-2008 01:09 PM

The type of players he has right now isn't great, but players LOVE to play for him. The ideal is to have him around for when the summer of 2010 comes around. Playing in the basketball mecca + a player's coach would be enticing for FA's (ie Lebron, Wade, Bosh)

It's funny - wasn't Marbury jettisoned about a month after D'Antoni got to Phoenix? And now he's got him again in NY. So the Marbury of 4 years ago wasn't to his liking but the current version is better? They are going to be looking for a real starting PG in NY.

Yeah I think your right malt, but something tells me that Marbury's days in NY are likely numbered anyways. ;)

I just read this at ESPN regarding the news of D'Antoni becoming the new Knicks head coach:

But they still need a point guard who can push the tempo.
Instantly I thought how great would Ford fit D'Antoni's up-tempo style of basketball. Problem is, outside of Lee is there really anyone else on that team we'd want? :confused2:

Dr. J. Naismith 05-13-2008 02:14 PM

Yup, its now official. Mike D'Antoni will take over the reigns from Zeke as Knicks bench boss. :)

D'Antoni won at least 54 games each of the last four seasons and earned coach of the year honors in 2005. He is known as one of the NBA's top offensive minds, running a system that helped Steve Nash win two MVP awards and making the Suns one of the league's most exciting teams.

He brings his entertaining system to a team that seems ill-suited to run it. The Knicks aren't a quick team, with Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph up front and an unclear situation at point guard, but D'Antoni vows he will come up with a scheme that works with this group.

"I look at the roster and that's the roster I'm going to win with," D'Antoni said at a news conference at Madison Square Garden.

D'Antoni went 253-136 in Phoenix, but the Suns let him talk to other clubs about their jobs after losing to San Antonio in the first round.
