Danny Ainge fined for towel toss

Quote:

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for tossing a towel to try and distract Cavaliers forward J.J. Hickson as he shot a free throw.

Ainge flipped a white towel over his head during the third quarter of Monday night's playoff game between Boston and Cleveland. Ainge was attempting to rattle Hickson, who made his second free throw despite the GM's actions.

Stu Jackson, the league's executive vice president of basketball operations, fined Ainge for "an unauthorized distraction and for conduct detrimental to the game."

Should GMs be able to exercise the same rights during a game as fans or should they be held to a higher standard? I feel like it's unfair on one hand, but shabby on the part of the GM on the other. I'm still not really sure if I'm for or against this.

Nav Bhatia does it all the time at Raptors games...

Is it because hes not team management?

I think TNT should be fined for repeatedly mentioning Ice Cubes new show

So hes fined because hes a GM of a team? Like another poster said, Nav does it all the time, and so do those dudes teams hire to get the crowd to move their thundersticks left to right to distract the shooter. Big deal. This is BS

I'm looking for clarification. Are you saying a GM should be able to do anything a fan does? Or, are you just suggesting that they can act like the fans in this particular instance?

I dont think its a big deal that Ainge was in the crowd supporting his team. Would it be a big deal if he had thundersticks and was putting them together while CLE shot FTs? Would he get fined for that?

Don't know about the thundersticks. Personally, I don't think that would be a problem. I don't think the towel is a big deal, either. In theory, I don't have a problem with what Ainge did, but I do have a problem with the idea that a GM can do anything a fan does, which is why I am seeking clarification. Just curious how far people think this can go. See, fans get away with a lot of things that would be considered very unprofessional if a GM or owner did them. Just ask Cuban. That dude behaves like a fan too much when sitting courtside.
