Dwight Howard has*informed*the Magic that he will play the option year of his contract in 12-13 with the team, sources have confirmed.

Christian Bruey of WFTV initially reported Howard's intentions following a meeting with the Magic.

Howard has not signed the paperwork, but he has told multiple people of his intentions. The reporting has been confirmed by Chris Broussard and Ken Berger amongst others.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!, Howard called a meeting with his teammates in San Antonio and told them he was "all in" for the remainder of the season. He also reports that Howard didn't explicitly tell his teammates that he was opting in for next season.

The Nets have long been hoping to pair Howard with Deron Williams, who also can become a free agent this summer.*

Howard also put the Lakers and Mavericks on his list of preferred destinations if the Magic were to trade him.

this shit is getting old. make up your fucking mind already. dont keep the team managament and hanging

nba should change the way players contracts work. the league is filled with drama queens looking for attention. sick and tired of players keeping teams hostage.

They should adopt the way nfl does contracts. where a team decides if they want to keep you and there is no such thing as a "guaranteed" contract. you have a guaranteed contract as long as you play well, other wise you get cut and get no money.

Meh. I'll believe it when he signs the contract.

He is becoming more hated than Lebron.. At least Bron did it in an hour, and not this mind game shit.

Dwight Howard has told the Magic that he will not surrender his option to become a free agent following the season, according to sources.

Howard told the Magic that staying with the franchise is his first choice, according to a source.

Multiple reports earlier on Wednesday indicated that Howard agreed to formally opt-in for the 12-13 season.

But Howard and agent Dan Fegan clarified their position during a conference call with Alex Martins, Rich De Vos and other members of the DeVos family.

Howard "didn't fully understand the ramifications" of surrendering his ETO, according to a source, and did so because the Magic threatened to trade him before the deadline if he didn't make that commitment.

Howard participated in the conference call shortly before boarding the team bus to play the Spurs.

Officials from the Magic were not surprised by the change in decision from Howard.

The Magic now have less than 24 hours to decide if they will trade Howard.

Dwight Howard's always been a very open Christian, and he's also had some public missteps in his love life.

Nothing, however, quite compares to this story, which involves Howard, porn-star Mary Carey and former 'NSYNC'er Chris Kirkpatrick:

“Dwight’s a cool guy. For a month, we like talked on the phone, and he was always trying to give me prayers to get me out of porn and give me Bible verses to read. So then, I was going to go visit him when I was in Orlando, but I went over to this other guy’s house instead, Chris Kirkpatrick from N’Sync. And then Dwight started calling, and calling, and calling me, because he knew I was with Chris Kirkpatrick, so eventually at 3 in the morning, Chris was like don’t answer Dwight’s calls.

“I get a text from Dwight at 3 in the morning — I’m outside Chris’s house. I’m like oh my god, what do I do? I was like, I got Dwight here and I got Chris in the other room and I’m talking to them back and forth. So finally I had to just pull Dwight in the bathroom and tell him he needs to go home. I was like I’m really sorry, I really like you, but this isn’t the time or place. When I pull him in the bathroom, he pulls his pants down, I was like, whooa. Yeah, and so I ran and started screaming …

“Well if it wasn’t for the Chris thing at the time, I really liked Dwight and maybe I would have furthered this. But I was at the guy’s house I was dating so it was inappropriate. So he totally thought he totally offended me. So I saved — he and I used to talk on instant messenger, on AOL — so he was apologizing; ’sorry, that was out of character for me,’ blah blah blah. I saved all the instant messages and I’ve been putting them all in a book. So I’ve got a lot of evidence. I’ve got an evidence file.”

Wow. I've always had the suspicion with the dancing, the tight shirts, the Superman costumes and the goofy mustache that Dwight is really just a big, overgrown 13-year-old, but this story kind of confirms that suspicion.

Dwight Howard has confirmed that he will opt-in for the 12-13 season in an exclusive interview with RealGM's Jarrod Rudolph.

Howard will sign the contract in the morning on Thursday.

Howard was apologetic for putting the organization through the circus that has followed him in recent days and vows to be better moving forward.

Over the course of Wednesday, Howard appeared to be indecisive on his wishes for the 12-13 season in the face of a possible trade from the Magic. The organization informed Howard they would seek a trade if he couldn't give them an assurance of his desire to remain beyond the current season.

More details of the interview to follow shortly.
