Clippers agree to Paul trade

Paul, 2 future second round picks for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Aminu, Minnesota unprotected first. Now waiting for the league.

The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a deal in principle with the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to acquire guard Chris Paul, according to sources close to the process.

The Clippers, sources said, will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul.

The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks, according to sources.

The deal is expected to be approved by the league Wednesday night, sources said.

ohhhh snap!!!!!!!

Damn, Clippers gave up a lot. Kaman, Gordon, AND Minny's unprotected pick is a hefty price to pay. But it may be worth it to see Paul + Griffin together.

And aminu. So now they would have Paul, Billups , Bledsoe?

Amazing deal for NO

Aminu is highly irrelevant in this scenario. Dude is not a deal maker/breaker. Clips gave up a lot, but still, Paul is a superstar.

Metallikid 12-14-2011 08:38 PM

Bad move by the Clips, IMO.

They had all the leverage in the world to say you won't get a better deal than Bledsoe/Aminu/Kaman/ + Minny's 1st rounder or Gordon. The longer Paul stayed a Hornet the more likely the Clips were to get that deal done. You can argue all you want that the TWolves pick might not be top 5 but we don't know that yet and for just two seasons with no guarantee beyond that I'd say this is a damn steep price, even for Chris Paul. EDIT: Especially after claiming Billups.

DanH 12-14-2011 08:40 PM

Yeah, good deal - both sides win. Rare to see that.

Stern pulled out the "Lakers are interested again" card and got the deal done. Guy's been around long enough that he would make a pretty good GM.

Kirby 12-14-2011 08:43 PM

Paul, Billips, Bledsoe, Mo Williams.

MikeToronto 12-14-2011 08:46 PM

That's a rape for Clippers, IMHO. Paul is not worth Gordon+pick, let alone the other players thrown in...

IMHO, we've already seen the best of Chris Paul. He is already going downhill and with the knee issues, the decline is both inevitable and potentially accelerating.

Clippers fucked it up... again :(

J-Bo 12-14-2011 08:53 PM

raps should get bledsoe!

Carlito Caliente 12-14-2011 08:59 PM

Someone's gotta get raped, better it be Clips than anyone else :mischief:

Clips probably think they can package Randy Foy, Billips, Bledsoe, Mo Will for Kobe

Projected starting:

Chris Paul
Kobe Bryant
Jamario Moon
Blake Griffin
DeAndre Jordan

Is he extending his deal?
That trade for 1 year of Paul is retarded.

jeffb 12-14-2011 09:05 PM

New Orleans

Jack/Dentmon
Gordon/Beli
Ariza/Aminu
?
Kaeman/Okafor

If they can aquire a decent starting PF that's as good a lineup you can have going forward without Chris Paul.

Anyone realize that the Clippers have Paul/Griffin and still have 14Mil in capspace?

NBATV reporting that he will opt in for his option year for next season. So he's there at least 2 seasons.

Retarded? That doesn't deserve a response. But for the sake of informing others, they just reported on NBAtv that Paul is opting in on his option year, so they'll have 2 years.

We've got 4, should throw some that way.

jeffb 12-14-2011 09:14 PM

Can Billups play the 2?

NBATV projecting the starting lineup:

Paul
Billups
Butler
Griffin
Jordan

This team will be fun to watch, and they aren't done adding.

I totally agree about the deal being good both ways - I like the potential of that combo of Griffen/CP3, and to some extent Jordan. CP3/Foye/Butler/Griffen/Jordan are not only going to be fun to watch offensively but they will have some nice defense as well. Man, a year ago, no, a month ago if someone said CP3 will be playing on the Clippers - and WANT to - I d have laughed.

LX 12-14-2011 09:18 PM

Billups at the 2 absolutely does not work. Now he has to be unhappy to some extent, and they can't trade him. Looks like he was right in speaking up. Somehow he always gets fucked over by other payers' dramas.
