I bet Mo Williams doesn't even make it to the first preseason game on the Clippers.

The longer Paul stayed a Hornet the more likely the Clips were to get that deal done. You can argue all you want that the TWolves pick might not be top 5 but we don't know that yet and for just two seasons with no guarantee beyond that I'd say this is a damn steep price, even for Chris Paul. EDIT: Especially after claiming Billups.
Yep. I'm in this camp as well.

Gordon AND the Minny pick AND Kaman???

That may be the best deal for a star that I've heard of in a long, long time.

And even after all this Paul can still thumb his nose to them after 2 years. Wow.

Wow, good return for NO.

I think this move works for both sides - NO knew that Paul wasn't coming back, but they really did get some good assets back for him.

For the Clips, their main MO is to keep Griffin, so a move like this shows them that they're serious. Also, with a whole bunch of vets left to sign, and players still to be amnestied, I'm sure they'll fill out the rest of their with cheap vets a la Miami.

I do worry about CP's long-term health though, and this reeks a bit of "win now", when the Clips aren't quite there yet.

Ahhhh hogwash! This is the Clippers. When in their 30yr history did they ever have this type of talent? It's a no brainer. At some point you have to just do it and the opprtunity to pair Paul/Griffin/Jordan after adding Caron Butler and still having nearly 15Mil in capspace to add some bench depth....it's an absolute no brainer. For once the Clippers are the talk of LA.....good for them and fuck Kobe!

Was Griffin/Jordan/Gordan/Butler/Kaman/Billups + whatever top they get next year really so bad?

*shrug* I guess that they're going for the "all-out" approach and are going to try to win it all in the next 2-3 years rather than waiting for a bit.

Really depends on what that Minny pick turns into.

Now that the Clips have traded it, I assure you it will be a multi-year all-star.

Apparently NO is close to re-signing Landry. If so their lineup is pretty good imo and can be decent. Not a playoff team but not that far off.

Jack/Dentmon/Beli
Gordon/Beli/Johnson
Ariza/Aminu/Pondexter
Okafor/Landry
Kaeman/?

Okarfor fails at playing PF. Landry should start even though he's undersized. And just fyi, it's Kaman, not "Kaeman".

Wouldn't surprise me at all if that Minnesota pick ends up being the number 1 pick with Stern being GM of Hornets and Commissioner at the same time.

I like the article posted re: Paul being on the decline and the Clips essentially overpaying for his services.

Interesting trade. I'm not sure why the Clips really made this deal though. I understand adding Chris Paul is a big add, but you had vet leadership in Billups and really needed to surround that team with smart vets (like Billups).

Plus, PG really wasn't a problem for that team (You had Billups, Williams and Bledsoe - who's pretty good in his own right). I would've made this trade for D12 instead of CP3.

Front court of D12/Griffin would be something else to see.

A ballsy move by the Clippers. It will make them an instant contender if Paul returns to form. If not, they just screwed up their long-term plans.

Just got an e-mail from the NBA newsletter about the trade.
Guess that means it's official.

Well, I could easily envision them knocking heads over the rim trying to put back the same ball.

Seriously, Clips didn't need Paul or Howard.

Isn't Paul only 26? It doesn't screw much up now that you have a top 5 PG on your team paired with Blake Griffin. Kaman was trash and they needed to make room for Jordan anyway. They have moves to do to clear up that pg spot.

Paul - Billups - Butler - Griffin - Jordan

That is SOLID.

It's a good trade for both sides. The Clippers shouldn't have claimed Billups though. They are looking a little too desperate to mak a big jump, and losing that pick next year will bite them. But for the Clippers to try to become contenders is pretty significant in its own right, and it's hard to be too critical all things considered.
