Cleveland makes offer for Rudy Gay-rejected

The Cleveland Cavaliers have the incredible fortune of owning the first and fourth overall selections in the 2011 NBA Draft, but a new report indicates they are open to moving at least one of them in order to upgrade their roster with a veteran contributor. Indeed, the Cavaliers offered the fourth pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for high-scoring small forward Rudy Gay, using the trade exception they received from the Miami Heat in the LeBron James sign-and-trade deal to absorb Gay’s salary, according to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress. Memphis said no.
2011 NBA Draft: Cavaliers Offer No. 4 Pick For Rudy Gay, According To Report - SB Nation Cleveland

I would've been mad if this happened. Toronto should definately make an offer.

Deez 05-23-2011 07:15 PM

#5, Barbosa, TPE?

Don Vito 05-23-2011 07:18 PM

That is a ridiculous offer. In this weak ass draft Rudy is worth much more than the fourth pick.

I'm a little surprised that MEM said no to that.... they could have shed themselves A LOT of salary, got a decent young player for cheap AND secured the money to re-sign both Mayo (if they want him) and Gasol (a necessity).

They must be really high on Gay... or looking for an established player in return maybe.

Really your surprised they said no, I'm sure if there looking to shed salary they could get a much better offer. What the hell is the number 4 pick in a draft like this.

Gay is worth atleast the 1st pick in this draft.

pzabby 05-23-2011 07:38 PM

what about going after their fourth pick with barbosa? maybe throw in dorsey or someone else to sweeten the deal? then take the fourth and fifth plus filler and get minny's 2nd?

And then trade Minny's second and Bargs to Cleveland for the first pick. :dancing:

Unless its for a lot less money and a bench position i doubt thats happening.

We have a much better chance at getting one of Cleveland's picks. I think we should make an offer to them, if it doesn't involve DD or Ed. Bargs/Barbosa/5th for their 1st/fillers.

I'd love to trade Bargnani and the fifth pick to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao and the first pick. Not sure if Cleveland will take on Bargnani though.

Throw in Bayless and they would bite. And I'd do it in a heartbeat. :dancing:

You would give up the chance to draft Williams or Irving and have him a rookie contract for 4 years for Gay who's making max money? :confused2:

No thanks.

Gay's good... but I don't think he's THAT good.

Do you think Kyrie or Williams will ever be as good as Gay will be? I don't think so. Believe me, I think both we be solid, solid players for their teams, but I don't either possess's that franchise player potential that Gay has.

Gay ain't a franchise player. He's a good one (like Joe Johnson) but there's no WAY I would have paid him the max if I could have helped it.

A SF making max money better be avging 25+ pts/gm and close to 7 rebs and a couple of assists.

19 and 6 on a pretty evenly talented Memphis team is pretty good if you ask me, despite his price-tag.
