Chauncey Billups: Next Stop Hall of Fame?

Quote:
In the 70's, it was Gus Williams. In the 80's, it was Dennis Johnson and Fat Lever. In the 90's, it was Kevin Johnson and Tim Hardaway. Every decade has a guard (or two) that a generation remembers, but history largely forgets. That better not happen to Chauncey Billups. Billups isn't just a Hall of Famer -- he's a first ballot Hall of Famer. Voters -- make that happen.
NBA.com: Next stop for Chauncey Billups should be the Hall of Fame

He'll get in. After how he transformed the Nuggets there should be no doubt now.

I really like these questions that a baseball writer asks himself about HOF. Change it to Basketball and does Chauncy qualify?

1. Was he ever regarded as the best player in baseball? Did anybody, while he was active, ever suggest that he was the best player in baseball?

2. Was he the best player on his team?

3. Was he the best player in baseball at his position? Was he the best player in the league at his position?

5. Was he a good enough player that he could continue to play regularly after passing his prime?

6. Is he the very best player in baseball history who is not in the Hall of Fame?

7. Are most players who have comparable career statistics in the Hall of Fame?

8. Do the player’s numbers meet Hall of Fame standards?

9. Is there any evidence to suggest that the player was significantly better or worse than is suggested by his statistics?

10. Is he the best player at his position who is eligible for the Hall of Fame but not in?

11. How many MVP-type seasons did he have? Did he ever win an MVP award? If not, how many times was he close?

12. How many All-Star-type seasons did he have? How many All-Star games did he play in? Did most of the other players who played in this many go into the Hall of Fame?

13. If this man were the best player on his team, would it be likely that the team could win the pennant?

14. What impact did the player have on baseball history? Did he introduce any new equipment? Did he change the game in any way?

15. Did the player uphold the standards of sportsmanship and character that the Hall of Fame, in its written guidelines, instructs us to consider?

This thing isn't decided based on your rule book or criteria or whoever's it is. The guy's impact goes beyond stats and accolades. He's one of basketball's greatest leaders and he turns weak teams into competitive teams and good teams into elite teams. He has a ring, a finals MVP award. He might lead the Nuggets to the finals over a team many consider the best of the league.

He deserves to get in. He is a good player that can turn teams around. Just look at what he did to the Nuggets. Crap with Iverson amazing with Billups.

He has completely transformed the Denver nuggets, by himself........Last year they had no D at all.....and they add him this year and they are one of the best defensive teams .......he has lead the nuggets to the conference finals and has a chance to get to the finals. Also, he has lead the Detroit pistons to conference finals numerous times and has been named the nba finals mvp........and those are quiet a lot of accomplishments.....i think he deserves to go to the hall of fame....

He was a fantastic point guard for the Nuggets during the late 80s I believe (not too sure). He grabbed a ton of triple doubles over his career; I think he's near the top of the list in that category.
