Charles Barkley and Dan La Batard bet on NBA Finals

They were talking about this on PT on Thursday.

Quote:

DALLAS -- South Floridians might want to avoid going to South Beach for a few days after the NBA Finals for fear of burning a mental image into their brains that could scar them for life.
Miami Herald columnist and radio personality Dan Le Batard challenged Hall of Fame basketball player Charles Barkley to a disturbing bet. LeBatard interviewed Barkley, a personal friend, during his drive-time radio show on 790 The Ticket before Thursday’s Game 5 and civil discourse quickly dissolved.
Le Batard and Barkley agreed that if the Mavericks lose the Finals, Barkley will wear a Speedo on South Beach while being interviewed on the radio show. If the Heat loses, Le Batard will wear the Speedo.
Either way, beachgoers lose.
Barkley, who is a basketball analyst for TNT, has been critical of the Heat throughout the postseason. On Wednesday, Barkley said on a different radio show that he was rooting for the Mavericks to beat the Heat because the team annoys him. “Listen, if the Miami Heat were playing the Washington Generals, I would pick the Washington Generals,” Barkley said. “It’s something about that team that annoys me. They’re just a whiny bunch, and I can’t root for them.”
Barkley also has been critical of the Heat and its fans. He recently called South Floridians the worst fans of professional sports in the country.
“Yeah they have the worst fans,” Barkley said on the radio. “No question. It’s not even loud in there. You’re at the game and you are like, ‘Man this place isn’t even loud.’ At least when you go to Chicago, it’s loud in there. It’s crazy down in Dallas, but it’s not even loud in Miami.”
Barkley was greeted coldly by Heat fans during the Eastern Conference finals. Fans booed him on air and lobbed insults and a T-shirt at him. Barkley responded with a middle-finger salute, and TNT was forced to move its pregame show inside.

"Middle finger salute". Real laughter was produced.

+1

Yeah, they really don't deserve their team.

^jeffb

and +1 again lol, I'm starting more and more to hate ESPN. Really wish Marv, Steve, Reggie and the TNT crew worked the finals.

It's a shame the Barkley smily barely gets used on this forum. :chuck:

Barkley related, so i thought i'd put this here.

Quote:

Charles Barkley is always in US Airways Center on the Ring of Honor but rarely visits the building.

Barkley does not want to be a distraction to the Suns but he would not mind being one of the team's silent minority owners, if you can believe the silent part. Talking about Philadelphia's ownership situation during a media conference call about next month's American Century Golf Championship (he is considering play lefthanded!), Barkley also mentioned his in-season hometown.

"I don't have enough money to be like a Michael (Jordan) and take complete control of an organization," Barkley said of his friend's status as Charlotte's managing partner. "But it would be fun to, like whether it was in Philadelphia or Phoenix, to put a few million dollars in and be not a speaking owner but just a fun, good investment."

I don't even mean for basketball, look at Tampa, they had a cup contender (at least finals contender) and they're building was better but still garbage for noise and enthusiasm. And look at the Pathers, not a great team but still worthy of some fans as they try to improve.

Turn to baseball, you have Tampa, they didn't get anyone in the building till the playoffs started, even when they were playing well and making their run, nobody really gave a shit. Florida marlins exact same situation, even when they won the world series it was never anything big there considering how other teams celebrate and such.

Finally you look at Football, now this is obviously the most popular sport in the the US, therefor they draw more and get a slight by more enthused but Jacksonville is on the verge of being relocated due to awful attendance and fan support, and Tampa is probably their most supported team in that entire state, but even still, nothing to brag about.

If only we could get winners, it would be electric, hell look how we cheer for losers and support them (of course I mean losing teams not players) Such a shame how the markets that actually care get shafted.

in florida you got a lot of immigrants and out-of-towners and their loyalties lies with another city. and unless ur a die-hard, there's a lot of other things you can do in your spare time

komot 06-10-2011 05:49 PM

i think any teams fans can be annoying, look at the mavs fans yesterday. every time a call did not go their way the fans were out raged. 90% of the calls were correct.
but yes, miami fans are band wagoners which i do loath but you can't say they are worst than laker fans, celt fans, mavs fans.

laker fans are the biggest bandwagoners....thats essentailly the reason behind why they still can't have an nfl team

Le Batard... lol.. enfant de pute!

rapsmannn 06-11-2011 02:22 AM

charles barkley is slowly turning into don cherry

i mean on a iconic media guy level,

speaks the truth, not affraid to upset players, with recent calling out of the heat and not liking hte way they act, hilarous,

and like cherry, charles is always spot on when it comes to talking about the game

highonpsi 06-12-2011 11:20 AM

Gotta love Charles. He knows they are punks (as more Toronto fans need to realize about Bosh) for joining on the same team. FUCK THE CHEAT ALWAYS AND FOREVER.
