Default Chandler, Gasol and Nene say how much they are asking for

This is crazy

Quote:
According to sources, Nene, Chandler and Gasol all set their early asking prices in the neighborhood of maximum-contract territory, starting at $14.8 million for Gasol, $17.7 annually for Nene, and $20.7 million for Chandler. There is plenty of crossover in their respective lists of salary-cap-friendly suitors, with the Nets, Rockets and Warriors appearing to be the hungriest shoppers, and the Pacers and Trail Blazers strolling the big man aisles as well.

I'm kind of rooting for it all to happen, it would be hilarious. /facepalm at David Stern and owners
with that salary, Chandler would be getting ~24 mil a year towards the end. And he may even become the league's highest payed player for a while.

Really though, Gasol is the only one worth what he's asking, and he's the only one who'll get it. The other two should end up at ~11-12 mil.

he's one of two good healthy young true centers in this league. I'd be very willing to pay him 14 mil if I was Rockets, or Warriors, or Blazers. That's like what, less than Bynum's salary?
Marc defends at Bogut's level, he's extremely unselfish when it comes to stats, he can pass and score in different ways, and he's a great locker room presence. All things considered, Howard's the only 5 I'd take ahead of him on a 4-5 year deal. I'm buying.

1 of 2? I take Horford and Bogut ahead of him at the very least.

the keyword for Bogut was healthy, Bogut would have to show that his hand is fine, and so far he has not. Also, he's missing up to 10 games each year on heavy migraines, and those things don't go away.
The keywords for Horford would be "pure center" but I wouldn't take him over Marc Gasol anyway. Marc is a better defender and he brings very rare offensive skill set.

I disagree on both... but we're cool..... I think you're overstating Gasol's offensive game. He benefited greatly from Zach going off last year.... I don't think he's as fantastic as he's all of a sudden being discussed.

Bogut did have a major arm injury... Sometimes it takes time to really recover. Horford is more offensive than Gasol and can play both frontcourt spots.... but fine, he's not just a C.

Being a pure center matters. I understand the sentiment that everyone should be valued equally regardless of position.
But there's a reason why 17 of the last 20 defensive POY awards went to pure centers. Defensive centers are a huge commodity. Healthy young ones with offensive game on top of D - it's a jackpot.

Horford can play 5 but his D is not close to Gasol's at center spot. Horford defends power forwards much better than he does centers. But here's a problem - I think Atlanta screwed up Horford. He's kind of underdeveloped as a 4 right now, offensively. He's good offensively at center, but as a 4, he's very mechanical and way less efficient. And now they are trying to play him next to Zaza and give him heavy power forward minutes, and it just doesn't work that well.
But even if Horford makes that transition to the 4 eventually... Gasol would still be more valuable.

As for Gasol benefiting from Zach - he really does not. They are a terrible fit. And to make it work, Memphis kept Marc's role very limited in many games. His job was to take an easy open dunk, and otherwise defend for Zach, clear out some bodies off Zach's way, stand one feet in the paint and make an assist for Zach, push everyone out so Zach gets the board, and shoot a jumper when Zach can't get a shot.

lol all three of these guys are asking for too much, 14.8 mill for a guy posting up 7 and 11 numbers is insane, i wonder what the lower tier centers are going to ask for

All 3 of them should be about 10mil annual each max. Put up 20 and 10 consistently with good defense and then you will see 20 mil contract. Isn't Pau getting like 16mil annually?

I'm sorry... but if ANY GM pays near to that much for Nene and Chandler then I have ZERO sympathy for them because they clearly haven't learned anything from the lockout. Even Gasol is a stretch @ almost $15M but at least he's younger and bigger.

phew! hope we don't go anywhere near. Even if each one comes down by 2-4mill!

hope it doesn't affect the values lower down the pecking order. We need a good value vet C.

Keep in mind Gasol had any possible offensive looks taken away by Gay, Randolph, Mayo, Conley + scrubs.

This guy would do damage with 12+ attempts per game. Liks someone said earlier...I'm buying.

I've been a massive Bogut fan since the kid was at Utah, One of my favourite players in the league, He is rather injury prone although his pure skills are insanely beyond those of Gasol. I would still choose the real AB over Gasol if I had the choice, but you gotta be happy with either if you have the chance.

Along with D12 and Noah, I think these 4 are the best centers in the league. Chandler is a force too because of his ferocity on D and athleticism. Still, a legitimate 2 way center with serious skill is worth 12-15 for sure. Youth is just a cherry on top.

None of these guys are worth even close to this much; Gasol included. Last time I checked you need to at least be an all-star if not all NBA to deserve a max deal. Let those GMs waste their money and capspace.

In terms of value for the money, I'd prefer Gasol over Howard. Howard is going to give you the obvious big plays, but Gasol stays in the game all the way through, and does all the little things. Don't underestimate the value of what goes on upstairs. Gasol's got that in spades.
