Smile Challenge issued: Bryon Russell Challenges Jordan To Pickup Game

From RealGM

Probably just posturing, but who wouldn't want to see a couple of close to 50 year old ex-NBA players going at it?

Bryon Russell Challenges Jordan To Pickup Game
Sep 13, 2009 9:12 AM EST

Bryon Russell has challenged Michael Jordan to a pickup game in California.

"I'll play his ass right now," Russell told Yahoo! Sports. "This is a call-out for him to come play me. He can come out here in his private jet and come play. He's got millions of dollars. He can pay for the jet. He can meet me at the Recreation Center in Calabasas.

"We can have Mark Jackson do the commentating. We can have Mitch Richmond do the officiating. We can put it on TV and see if Michael's still got it."

Jordan mentioned Russell in his Hall of Fame acceptance speech on Friday. The players had a moderate feud during their playing days.

After recalling a few incidents during his speech, Jordan said: "From this day forward, if I ever see him in shorts, I'm coming at him."

That would be better than seeing Charles Barkley trying to do pushups.

hahaha. poor MJ. He's so out of shape, which is probably why Russel is so eager to play him (I'm assuming he has stayed relatively fit)

Russell is 38, MJ is 46. But Russell is playing for some IBL team in Cali and is playing all the time at rec centers. If he gave MJ a month, MJ would totally own him (It's not fair to just call someone out when they haven't been playing at all while you have) Either way I think MJ would own him, but it would be more fair to give him a month.

Let's see...MJ says that if he sees Russell in shorts then it's on. Oh yeah - it would be entirely unfair unless MJ gets a month to prepare.

Jordan would still dominate Russell easlily. What I would want to see more is Clyder Drexler vs Jordan. I saw Clyde Drexler last year on Pro's vs Joe's and he was still dunking the ball with ease and he was nailing every shot, open or not.

lol, I saw that the other day. (rerun) He didn't dunk THAT well, he squeeze dunked one. His shot looked like any former NBA players should. MJ would destroy him with his fakes, moves and defense.

Drex can still dunk? Wow. Did anyone see the celebrity game last year. Nique was in horrible shape.

Jordan would probably put the boots to the vast majority of his contemporaries. Why? Because he takes it personally. Always has, always will.

Yeah I agree with that. My sisters boyfriend showed me a vid of Jordan playin against some university kid and all Jordan had to do was stand there and fade away and he hit every shot except one where the kid slapped his elbow.

Someone should link me to Clyde Drexler on Pros vs Joes.

Maybe Jordan will push him again and get away with another blatant offensive foul.

I couldn't find it on the net. But they are showing reruns currently. I just watched the one with Shawn Kemp Today.

Micheal Finley even kicked Jordan s ass in a 1 on 1 game when he was a rookie and Jordan was in his prime.
