Celtics Were Close To Trading Ray Allen To Grizzlies For Mayo

Wow imagine these went through....especially the way Boston has been playing..

Quote:

The Celtics had a deal with the Grizzlies at the deadline that would have centered around Ray Allen for O.J. Mayo and a draft pick.

Doc Rivers went so far as to tell Allen that he had been traded, but called again 20 minutes later to say the deal had fallen apart.

League sources say Danny Ainge was also working on a Paul Pierce to New jersey trade for Mehmet Okur and a lottery pick.

Interesting. I wish we could get Mayo, just wonder if we'd have anything they'd want.

I'm sure they'd take our best shooting shooting guard and our lottery pick!

Wow. No disrespect to Allen but I would have taken that deal and ran with it.

Mayo + a pick would have been an outstanding deal.

Pierce to NJ for Okur and a lottery pick? :cookie: Meh lottery pick is nice, but don't give up your franchise player for 10+ years and 2nd best player on the team for that. Pierce should be a Celtic for life unless a no-brainer trade.

that would be a pretty good deal for both teams. Memphis needs shooters and vet presence in that young mix. Celtics would get a young stud waiting to explode. I know OJ can be a 20 ppg 5 apg guy when given the minutes.

More to the story apparently...

Celtics were demanding OJ Mayo, Mike Conley, Dante Cunningham and Josh Selby in the Ray Allen deal | IamaGM.com

Celtics wanted Mayo, Conley, Cunningham, Josh Selby and a draft pick for Ray Allen?

For Jesus Shuttlesworth that would be considered fair value, but this is an aging Ray we're talking about.

I wouldn't give Mayo alone for Allen.

Besides, isn't Allen a FA this summer?

No way that's remotely true...Memphis wouldn't give up Conley to run with Pargo and a random at pg for the rest of the season.

I don't know what the deal with Ray is this season. He's probably the oldest on that team, but he's by far in the best shape out of the big 3. He's been out of funk all season.

I wonder if they got Conley, they were looking to deal Rondo?

Getting Pau for Rondo would be the exact opposite of what they were trying to do. No use of Pau going to Boston.
