Celts in Hot Pursuit of Sheed

Damn, a Sheed/Garnett front court would be tough even as they both enter the twilight of their careers. Almost like a vastly more talented and versatile Oak/AD front court.

Celtics continue to recruit Wallace
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

Here’s how badly the Boston Celtics believe Rasheed Wallace(notes) can be the difference in winning an 18th NBA championship next season: Coach Doc Rivers and the Big Three have made a recruiting trip to woo him, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Celtics are targeting Wallace with the midlevel exception and sources say the team – which could be willing to pay a steep luxury tax – is also pursuing Phoenix’s Grant Hill(notes). The Celtics sent Rivers, Kevin Garnett(notes), Paul Pierce(notes) and Ray Allen(notes) to encourage Wallace to sign with them. Garnett and Wallace have a close relationship.

Boston officials are convinced that these next 24 to 48 hours are critical in overtaking the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference, and eventually, the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.

Wallace, who turns 35 in September, is the free agent power forward that most of the contenders covet, including Cleveland, Orlando, San Antonio and Dallas.

He'd be coming off the bench but hed still be getting 25 mpg, and man what a backup.

Having 3 of the top 5 post defenders in the NBA on the same team= WIN

Celtics Offer 'Sheed a Contract

An NBA source said that the Celtics offered Pistons free agent F/C Rasheed Wallace a contract using the mid-level exception today during a three-hour meeting in Detroit.

The Celtics All-Star trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, coach Doc Rivers, president Danny Ainge, and managing partner Wyc Grousbeck all attended the meeting.

While interested, the source said Wallace was in no rush to make a decision.

Other teams projected to be interested in his services are Charlotte, San Antonio, Orlando, and Cleveland.

Theyll probably do:

KG(32), Sheed(8)
Perk(30), Sheed(18)

And then give the rest to some random vet who they sign with the LLE, or even Scalabrine if need be.

Getting Sheed to come off the bench and knowing hes going to be motivated with KG on his team is HUGE. Absolutely sick defensive frontcourt if they can get this done. Maybe one of the best ever.
