Celtics Extend Offer To Corey Maggette

Ugh ... just what Boston needs .... adding Maggette and getting that much stronger. :crying:

They reportedly offered Maggette the mid-level exception, worth roughly $5.8 million.

"I was very surprised they called. They just came off a championship," said Maggette in a phone interview.

"It's a great honor to even hear from them," Maggette added. "Hopefully, I can look at some of the options. That's a good option playing for those guys."

Haha. Time for the Celts to DIE.
I'm laughing at the situation right now. An MLE to Maggette, Pierce/Allan/Maggette,Celtics?
Haha..
Please..How much more money do the Celtics have? The league should look into what they're doing. Overloading their cap.

Dr. J. Naismith 07-02-2008 01:34 PM

Money aside which wouldn't be much for Maggette, I could see him take a run with Celts just for the pure fact that he would stand an extremely good chance in winning a championship next season. But we'll see if Corey's in it for the money or not. Should be interesting. :giggle:

Kirby 07-02-2008 01:40 PM

I don't see a role open for him unless they're thinking of 6th man. Does this mean they're not going for Posey? :giggle:
To me, this will backfire.
1-They have enough scorers. Maggette will just weaken their defense unless KG smacks Maggette.
2-Maggette would like to start. He won't operate at his best unless he starts which will be a problem.
3-Garnett,Pierce,Allen, now Maggette too?
4-Cap problems :]

Dr. J. Naismith 07-02-2008 01:44 PM

If Maggette is a replacement instead of Posey then Ainge has totally lost his mind. With that line-up the team is much better with Posey instead of Corey in my opinion. But I'm pretty sure Ainge is looking to bring back Posey as well and James has already said that he really wants to return to the Celtics too. :confused2:

INSIDER 07-02-2008 03:31 PM

Ainge realizes that Ray Allen is almost done...
he's no longer the high scoring superstar he once was and will slowly turn into a 6th man/3pt specialist.

Major 07-02-2008 05:12 PM

Yeah but they'll keep Ray. He's great, and they'll probably keep him for 2 more years.

Gurk 07-02-2008 05:39 PM

ray is about to lose his touch. did you guys see him in the playoffs, especially against cleveland and detroit, he was horrible from befind the arc and two-pointers

Kirby 07-02-2008 08:22 PM

Haha 2 more years? 16M. Did they pull a Miami? Sell their souls for a championship?

Yeah but i know for sure he was pretty kick-ass in the Lakers series

Ball Don't Lie 07-03-2008 01:29 AM

Ray isnt about to lose his touch. He struggled vs ATL/CLE because they trapped him everytime he came off a pick and roll forcing him to pass, and when he was running around screens they did a great job of having the big help on him so he couldnt catch and shoot. His shooting wasnt the problem, he just couldnt get a shot off. His ability to create has definately diminished but his shooting is fine.

And the Celtics would be a worse team if they got Maggette instead of Posey.

The MVP of West Hollywood 07-03-2008 02:53 AM

I think Maggette would make much more sense for the Spurs, and that's where I think he'll go anyways

The Spurs REALLY need another scorer like him. And his lack of defense won't hurt too bad because as long as they have Duncan and Popovich, the Spurs will always be good at d. Guys like Parker and Finley aren't exactly defensive aces but it doesn't present much of a problem as long as Timmy's back there cleaning up.

Major 07-03-2008 07:44 AM

Damn I hope he doesnt go to BOS. Thats all I need is more Boston bandwagonners. :frustrated:

Gurk 07-03-2008 02:18 PM

i hate how so many people jumped on the Boston bandwaggon. and really there is no way the celts are going to do this, they much rather sign posey

Major 07-03-2008 03:31 PM

Well all we can do is hope. For the sake of seeing random people wearing Celtics jersey next year.

The Celtics are denying rumors that they have made an offer to free agent forward Corey Maggette, according to The Boston Herald.

Danny Ainge has reportedly placed retaining James Posey at the top of his offseason priority list, and a team source insists that no offer has been made to Maggette.

The only thing Boston can offer players is the mid-level exception, which they have offered to Posey.

Ball Don't Lie 07-03-2008 11:56 PM

Itd be funny if Maggettes agent said they were full of shit in the next article and said that they offered him the MLE.

But again, Boston is much better off with Posey than Maggette for their 2-3 year window.

Gurk 07-04-2008 05:52 PM

they make that type of stuff up to catch the readers attention so they will buy the newspaper
