I think you've misread the trade. Cleveland got rid of that overrated bum and all the mentioned picks while acquiring that expiring contract.

Hopefully (for them) it's up to midlevel. Top players can make more than midlevel in Europe (once you account for taxes). But Mirotic is probably paid less since he's still under an old contract that he signed in 2011.

Then there's also a buyout, as he has 2 more years on his current contract. The buyout is a bit over 3 mil based on what I can find and the Bulls can only directly pay a small portion of it. The rest would have to be paid by Mirotic, so it has to be reflected in a signing bonus and Mirotic's Bulls contract.
this is a bit outdated but a good read on what Bulls can offer him The numbers behind Mirotic’s contract situation | Chicago Bulls Confidential

So RFA's can only sign 3 year contracts before July 1st, 2014. If I'm Deng, there's no way I'm signing for only 3 years of guaranteed money, and if I'm Cleveland, I hesitate to give Deng 5 years 60+ million at 28 years old with the mileage that he has. Cleveland would essentially be putting themselves on the treadmill if they sign him for 12+ million IMO, unless Bennett really turns out to be a quality player.

It'll be very interesting to see what they do with Varejaos 10 million team option.

Thanks and yea I did at first. 3 picks is steep for an expiring. Deng will help though and in practice, could make a player like Anthony Bennett better.

To me its important to admit mistakes (like their Bynum experiment) and move on. They did so quickly and costly but it might pay off down the line.

A ton of second round picks (or soon-to-be second round pick), and saving salary. I agree with Bill that it's not the greatest haul for an all-star, but it still is just a rental. Especially this season with the realization and the desperation to get worse for the draft, I think Chicago did fine here.

Cleveland however...

Might get a lot of hate, but if we didn't already have JV, or thought JV could play PF...

I wouldn't mind Bynum here for cheap, say just the rest of this year at 5 million or so. Dude can play, just needs to get over himself at times.

Why did CLE want to get rid of him anyway? Was it him being a prick or the teams doing?

According to a variety of NBA sources, a disruptive pattern of behavior had been developing, culminating with an obviously disinterested Bynum jacking up wild shots at practice on Friday, angering coaches and teammates. This is not practicing the right way, or being professional, and the Cavs could not have it, especially with a young, impressionable team and an organization that values developing its "culture" above all else.
Suspension of Andrew Bynum was inevitable as Cleveland Cavaliers strive to do the right thing: Analysis | cleveland.com

“He doesn’t want to play basketball anymore,” a league source told Yahoo Sports.

The Cavaliers believe Bynum has been a “disruptive” presence within the team and have lost hope the partnership can be salvaged, sources said. Bynum often expressed a lack of desire to play and practice and was convinced by the Cavaliers not to quit previously, sources said.

What a waste of talent. The guy could have been a top 3 Center for years.

1st, nobody said that you always get a championship from tanking. 2nd, your point isn't really sensible when you consider that somebody using google to look at a mock draft could have made better picks. Bennett, Waiters, and Thompson were all supposed to go later than they actually did, and for good reason evidently.

I agree man. Never want him anywhere near our team. You can have all the talent in the world, but if your not a team player and just a fucking asshole in general I don't even want you in the league, which is why I'm hoping Bynum is out of the league by next season.
