Cavs Cavs prefer Valanciunas over Kanter

Quote:
If Jonas Valanciunas' buyout is completed before the draft, multiple sources indicate the Cavs are leaning toward taking the 245-pounder. However, if the snafu is still hanging over his head, then the 259-pound Kanter could be the pick.

First of all, there’s an outside chance Kanter will be selected No. 2 by Minnesota or No. 3 by Utah.

Kanter appears to be a safer pick than Valanciunas for the Cavs. He’s ready to play right now. His offensive skills and physical development are further along.

Then why would the Cavs select Valanciunas?

His ceiling appears to be much higher. Once it all comes together for the Lithuanian center, he could become an All-Star.

“They’re both risks,” ESPN analyst Chad Ford said. “They both have upside. I think if you picked Kanter, you’re picking because he is a bit more polished offensively right now, and he has a better NBA body right now.

“If you pick Valanciunas, you’re picking upside. You’re picking a guy who I know many NBA scouts feel in five years could end up being the best player in this draft, but he’s got a long way to go to get there.”

The only way I take Leonard with 5 is if both Knight and Walker are off the board. Walker would be amazing here, and if Derozan likes him, even better.

Knight's goin to Utah I think, every team Devin Harris has played for has seen him as an injury risk and somewhat expendable.

This team needs Kemba!

If Val didn't have that buyout, he would be my absolute favourite for our 5th pick. Guy is the center we've been lacking forever.

didnt utah promise jimmer they'd take him at 12?
if so, i dont think they will be picking 2 pg's.... so knight may be available.

If I were to make a prediction, I'd say Kanter at 3, and Jimmer at 12.

He's been compared to Primoz Brezic, Spencer Hawes, Andris Biedrins. Doesn't instill a shitload of confidence from me. Plus he appears Skinny and frail from what i've seen.

remember though its not talent ability their being compared but rather game style. reason for the comparisons is that most of those guys played rather defensive which is what this kid does right now.

Valanciunas is a good prospect. Big problem is that he probably can't come the NBA for another few years because of his $3M buyout.

Agreed.

1. Knight
2. Walker
3. Leonard
4. Kanter

Knight or one of the C's and I'll be happy. Knight AND one of the C's, violently happy.

Like many here, both. I've seen some of them play and the rest that i haven't seen i have to go by what i read about them and what i can see in clips. Sorry, but i've never seen Iman Shumpert play, but if he was better then Knight he wouldn't be projected to be a late 1st-early 2nd round pick in this draft.

The way NBA.com is overrating Jimmer I doubt he'll be available at the 12. So I think utah would play safe and draft a pg at the #3 pick. Probably Knight, or they could surprise everyone and draft jimmer at that spot.
