Cavs in 3way trade talks to get #2 pick?

Wow!!

Cavs, Pistons, Twolves discussing 3-team trade that would give Cavs 1st & 2nd picks, sources say.
Quote:

Cavs absorb Rip Hamilton into 14.6 mill trade exception & get Det's 8th pick. Cavs send 4th & 8th picks to Minny for 2nd pick
Quote:

Cavs would then draft Kyrie No. 1 and Derrick Williams No. 2. Nothing imminent but trade us being discussed by the teams.

What Cleveland's doing doesn't surprise me much. After the Baron Davis trade, a number of NBA analysts predicted it was just the first step in Gilbert's plan to do a "rich man's rebuild". That is, agree to take on other teams' shitty contracts, so long as they give you their picks as well.

This, ladies and gentleman, is why ownership can be more important than a GM during a rebuild. Portland knows.

Edit - If this happens, and Minny keeps the 4th and 8th picks without making any moves for vets, that will surprise me. I know it's Kahn, but even he's gotta realize he's got a shit load of prospects already. He could be cashing in some of his chips for a legit starting lineup.

Meh. Just means one less team to worry about drafting Knight... Unless Minny wants another point guard...

The only team we've ever had to worry about was Utah. Well, as long as Cleveland didn't take Williams 1st.

If this happens, i predict...

1. Irving
2. Williams
3. Knight
4. Kanter
5. Walker, Vesely, Leonard, Valanciunas, Biyombo, Burks???????

I predict we end up with Walker.

Wouldn't mind snagging Jonas and then picking a point guard in next years draft.

I'd rather take Biyombo then Jonas. But i want Knight or Walker with my third choice being Leonard.

pzabby 05-28-2011 03:49 PM

god this draft is just extremely depressing. my prediction is that our 13th pick in last years draft would have had a better rookie year than our fifth. ugh:sigh:

DonMughal 05-28-2011 03:54 PM

Wow, so jealous right now.

This year we pick Knight or Kemba and next year we pick Harrison Barnes :D

I'd rather pick a PG next year! Austin Rivers or Myck Kabongo

He is a PG, but if he gets stronger he will be capable of playing SG.

Austin Rivers>>>>Anyone in this years draft class

another team out of the way in our quest for Barnes :cookie:

Knight/Kemba
DeRozan
Barnes
Ed
Bargs?????????

So Cleveland would get Williams and Hamilton for possibly a Enes Kanter? The wonders that the TPE can do.

js12 05-28-2011 08:23 PM

BTW I found some contradicting statements.

Quote:

The Pistons are not involved in three-way trade discussions with the Cavs and the Timberwolves, according to a team source with knowledge of the situation.

That contradicts an ESPN.com report that said the three teams are discussing a deal where Cleveland would absorb Detroit’s Richard Hamilton into the $14.6-million trade exception it received in last summer’s LeBron James sign-and-trade with Miami while also receiving the Pistons’ No. 8 draft pick.

Source: absolutely no chance of supposed 3 way with CLE, MIN, DET happening. None. Zero. Why would Pistons have 2 give up first 2 move Rip?

Bill Haverchuck 05-28-2011 08:43 PM

Thanks for posting the update, js12.

As for Aldridge's question re: "why would the Pistons have 2 give up first 2 move Rip?"

Well, because Cleveland would be absorbing RIP's huge salary. The deal would save the Piston's over $35 million dollars, which might be a big deal considering how much money the team has lost the past 2 seasons. They had to drastically reduce ticket prices just to keep people coming to games. Detroit is one of the American cities that has been hit hardest by the poor economic situation since 2008. RIP might be worth something, but, with the new CBA coming, few teams want to touch a SG who is making over $12 mill per and is on the wrong side of 30.

No matter what rookies they get, Ricky Rubio is going to win the rookie of the year award easy

don't be so sure. on two accounts..

1) he might not even come to the nba this season.

2) irving could very well give him a run for his money

m5racer 05-29-2011 02:46 PM

why cant we do shit like this?

MARTYNAS 05-29-2011 02:57 PM

I thought Toby is a Rubio hater. I think he was sarcastic, or maybe sarcastically referred how weak this draft is.

Cuz our ownership group doesn't give a fuck about Wins, just $$$
and this kind of a re-build would take $$$$ out of their pockets.

We need a Mark Cuban kinda owner desperately.
