Suns Caron Butler to the Bucks?

Quote:
The Phoenix Suns and Bucks are seriously engaged in trade conversations that would send Caron Butler to Milwaukee, according to a report citing multiple sources.

"Much respect for the organization of the Phx Suns#staytuned," Butler posted on his official Twitter account late Wednesday night.

Butler has reportedly thought about playing for his hometown Bucks and a possible deal could be consummated as soon as Thursday. Exact details of the trade are unknown.

The report cites that Carlos Delfino could miss the entire preseason and even a portion of the regular season.

Butler was traded to the Suns after two seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Phoenix Suns have agreed to trade Caron Butler to the Milwaukee Bucks for Ish Smith and Slava Kravtsov.

Butler has found appealing the prospect of playing for his home-state team. He was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Suns seven weeks ago and was expected to bring leadership to Phoenix.

Butler, 33, will make $8 million this season on an expriring contract but the Bucks could absorb most of that with $7.5 million of cap space.

It is unclear what the Suns have planned for Smith and Kravtsov.

The Phoenix Suns gained $5.65 million of cap space for any potential in-season trades by making the Caron Butler deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

They appear likely to use that money to make an expected costly waiver of Michael Beasley more palatable.

Beasley would be owed $9 million of guaranteed salary.

And the Clippers still haven't told him that he's traded to Phoenix. Should the Suns tell him about Milwaukee, or should the Clippers?

This lineup is 7th-10th spot worthy. I think if healthy, we should be better though.

Based on a hunch? I think the argument could easily be made for the opposite to be true. What makes you not like their lineup?

They have far better depth. Our starting 5 is probably better but beyond that........not really.

I think we have better starters, BUT our bench isn't good enough and lack scorers. I think we can fight for the 7th or 8th spot. Just a feeling though.

We are not better, but it can go either way if we keep the roster as is.

Big tank engagement, I felt the ground shake in Oregon after the Butler trade.

Or maybe the Bucks are good? I would have no idea, because they have little national coverage. The Suns get more coverage because they get to play the Lakers 4 times, guaranteeing them 4 games on National TV. I know the Bucks hammer the crap out of Portland, but that is not too impressive, for most every team in the league has over the course of these last 2-3 seasons.

they're going in with a nice front court, but they're just going to be another treadmill.

I know we're not that great and all, but I think Milwaukees roster is horrible.
They are all unproven and overrated, IMO.
Knight? Unproven and overrated, mayo is a chucker, delfino is a 6/7 man at best, illyasova has fallen off after last years skiles debacle. Out of them all, Larry sanders is their most intriguing player but is also unproven and had 6 good months of ball last year.
I really don't see how these guys will be a playoff team at all.... their bench is ok, but not great.

I don't know that they are overrated (who rates them highly?) but you could very well be right.

Their perimeter defense will be below average. And they will have trouble defending legit offensive centers. They'll block some shots but overall i think they won't be a good defensive team. So they have to be good on offense. But their best individual offense creator is OJ Mayo. Their second best offensive player is probably Ilyasova, who can't create for himself at all.

So they will need a great system to get them looks. They hired Larry Drew, and judging by what he did in Atlanta, they will probably run, space the floor, and run a motion type of offense with a lot of screens, cuts, movement. But in Atlanta, Drew built that offense around Horford/Smith, two skilled passing bigs who played very well with each other. He will have to completely rethink it in Milwaukee.

So it will be interesting. They have a roster with a lot of shooters and mobile players. They have a coach who fits that roster very well, on paper. They have decent depth and several interesting young players who might improve. But they will completely depend on their coach to figure out a great system and teach it.

If they make the playoffs, I think Larry Drew will deserve very strong Coach of the Year consideration.
