Default Canada Advances To Championship Game Of Nike Global Challenge

Lots of talk about Jonas...and for good reason but let's not forget about Canada...

Behind excellent defensive intensity and effective perimeter shooting, Team Canada defeated USA East by a final score of 104-83 to advance to the championship game of the 2011 Nike Global Challenge. Team Canada simply dominated the final five minutes of the fourth quarter, leaving USA East reeling.

Canada was able to establish Sim Bhullar early and often, as he outplayed Nerlens Noel of USA East. Noel is one of the top-three prospects of the 2012 class. Bhullar had 16 points on just 11 shots while controlling the glass with 11 boards.

In the second half, the Canada guard tandem of Tyler Ennis and Xavier Rathan-Mayes took control of the tempo and hit key bucket after key bucket. Rathan-Mayes scored 19 points, while Ennis had 14 points and six assists.

Despite a quiet first half, Andrew Wiggins led Canada in scoring with 21 points, shooting 3-for-6 from distance. Wiggins punctuated a Team Canada run with a three-pointer to put his team up 93-81 with 2:25 remaining.

Omar Calhoun led USA East in scoring with 22 points, but Cameron Biedscheid and Ricardo Ledo struggled to get going offensively.

Noel finished the game with just one block, three rebounds and without a shot attempt. He also remained on the down the stretch when the game was still in question.

One of the lone bright spots for USA East was the play of Jerami Grant, who scored 10 points and had nine rebounds (six offensive).

Only 5 nations are represented and the US has 3 teams? http://www.primetimepdx.com/ngc/ngc_teams.htm

No offense but this doesn't seem like a reputable tournament

It's a highschool players tournament... it's not Senior team, so you know.

Yea but I thought I would recognize some of the US H.S. players, especially considering they have 3 teams. Their rosters were full of random guys. It is what it is.

All I know is that Canada's men's NT lost to Bulgaria and Macedonia. WTF lol. Their better then that...

Seriously... They lost to France by 62 few days earlier... Canada is bad. Probably not that bad as Bulgaria or Macedonia, but definitely not way better. Macedonia actually has solid players like Bo McCalebb, Vlado Ilievski, Pero Antic. McCalebbs and Ilievski's duo sounds better than Canada's guards to say the least...

And after all, it was only friendlies.

Canada's team isn't that great, but they weren't even fielding their full roster in those losses.

Yeah, the senior team is gross right now. But if guys like TT, Joseph, Wiggins, Wiltjer, Pangos and Bennett stick with the program, the future looks bright. And if the original T-MAC (Todd MacCullough) makes a comeback, they might as well just give us the gold.

No other FIBA related thread, so I posting it here, it's offtopic, but kinda funny. Argentina played a friendy game against País Vasco (Basque Country) today in Spain. Have no idea why this game was scheduled what so ever, but it just happened. Argentina 92-28 Basque autonomous community... Canada looks decent compared to this.

Sim Bhullar is turning out to be a force down low. If he can continue to work on his body he may just be unstoppable.

He sucked in the U19 championship against okay opponents. This Nike tournament has no reputable players... not trying to be pessimistic as much as realistic. All he has is size and I think he's too fat for being 7"4 at this age = bad knees.

Canada has other better future options, namely in Tristan Thompson and Kabongo.

I'd say the best case for him is Roy Hibbert and worst Pavel Podkolzin.
