Camby traded to the Clippers for 2nd round pick

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3491156

WTF?

Denver = insane. I mean, Camby comes off in 2010 and is still a productive player anyways... he's no Zach Randolph. 2nd round pick?

This isn't even a good move for the Clippers either, I mean you'd probably have more potential with Okafor or Iggy or something than this, Camby's on the decline.

Ball Don't Lie 07-15-2008 09:54 PM

Denver is a joke.

I think clips will end up trading Camby for either Smith or Okafor, if not itll be interesting to see how a Kaman/Camby frontcourt works out.

Claudius 07-15-2008 10:11 PM

I like this move from the Clips standpoint. Defensively their frontcourt is pretty improved. And they have enough capspace in 2010 to pursue a top tier player to play in Los Angeles.

Denver on the other hand? They could've gotten alot better of a package imo.

Ball Don't Lie 07-15-2008 10:25 PM

Dumars clearly hustled Colangelo. He got TWO 2nd rd picks for Delfino.

Colangelo= bust.

Understatement of the millenium. Chicago was offering Hinrich at least. Memphis got Kwame Brown at least!!!!

I expect this is what the phone call for this trade sounded like

*ring ring*

*Elgin Baylor picks up*: Hello

Denver FO spokesperson: Hey there... I'm speaking for Mark Wakentien.

Baylor: Oh hey. Are we still on for that 9 o clock tee time on Saturday?

Denver FO: He says he'll get back to you on that. We're calling concerning your proposed deal of a 2nd rounder for Zach Randolph?

Baylor: Oh for christs sake, if this is another call making fun of us... I finally thought you guys had gotten over that. Who is this? Sasha?

Denver FO: No, it's the Denver FO. We were just wondering if that 2nd rounder is still on the block. Would you take Marcus Camby for it?

Baylor: Wait... what?

Denver FO: We'll give you Marcus Camby for a 2nd rounder

Baylor: No way

Denver FO: Yes way.

Baylor: Well then... It's a done deal! Let me call ESPN.

Denver FO: Thanks a lot.

Just a quick question- why on Earth would the Nuggets do this?

No seriously, I must be missing the big picture or something because I don't understand why they would just give away a star big man like Camby. Is there some hidden salary issues or what? Real talk.

Well at least he is staying in the Western Conference and not making the Eastern Conference any stronger.

Claudius 07-15-2008 11:26 PM

I could only see this as a move to shed salary but I think they're so far over the cap that even getting rid of Camby doesn't move them any closer to the cap.

It just doesn't make any sense. Why not deal for any assets?

That's hilarious lol. You made Baylor sound like a total dumbass lol.:haha:
Seriously..Wtf is wrong with Denver? LA didn't need Camby unless they're planning for Kaman to go PF but for a second rounder I'd fricken do this in a heartbeat. At least we'll have a big asset in trade for a shitty draft pick in the high 40s.
Denver..Fucking stupid..

Actually, the Nuggets organization is saving like 20 million doing this, considering they both don't have to pay Camby's contract next year and don't have to pay the luxery tax for it. I think that's the motive. They could've at least got something like the Clippers next two 1sts lottery protected and a second or something, though.

Kirby 07-16-2008 01:30 AM

Nuggets still have Nene.

The luxury tax motive makes some sense, but its essentially telling their fanbase we're not seeking to be competitive this season. It's still a head scratcher.

Which is legitimately baffling for a team featuring two of the top five scorers in the game.

I mean, they have 3 guys making huge money, so I understand making the move. But why move your defensive anchor, who remains one of the best 5 men in the league, and helped your team significantly without being a black hole like Melo and Iverson are.

I would've traded either of those two before Camby, especially considering you could trade either to a semi-contender and likely get good young talent back.

One thing though, is that this could be a precursor to another deal. Maybe they plan on getting rid of Iverson this summer too, thus committing to total rebuilding.

At this point, they're still way over the cap with two superstars that score and don't do much else. They won't make the playoffs, and that's hard to justify when you're spending a lot of money on two of the alleged best players in the league.

Either way, Clips fans (all 5 of them) are laughin right now.

INSIDER 07-16-2008 03:13 PM

i honestly thought this thread title had to be a joke.
seriously... how the hell does the leading blocker in the league, 2nd best rebounder, and top 5 Center get traded for a 2nd round pick????
how? why??? is this even true????
Camby played in about 70 games last season... he's relatively healthy (or at least the healthiest he's been ever), and continues to be one of the best blocking/rebounding C's in the game. what on earth was the Denver GM smoking?
its insane.

the_ raps_analyst 07-16-2008 03:43 PM

they should have at least traded martin instead. This is going to help the clippers make it to the 8th spot if they play well and denver wont.

LX 07-16-2008 04:35 PM

The Nuggets just have way too much salary, and now they are thinking ahead to when AI expires and the FA sweeps begin. They already let Najera go for nothing in free agency.

And yes they are pretty much giving up on being competitive in the meantime.

This is definitely brutal. You'd have to think that Camby would be one guy that would be very tradable. Could they not find anyone to take JR Smith for nothing? What a mess.

Major 07-16-2008 04:40 PM

What are you guys talking about? This makes perfect sense!!!

If you trade away a #2 draft pick player, you get a 2nd round pick in return....it's only fair!

Big woop. The guy plays 20 games a year,.

And they couldnt have traded Kmart instead because no one wants his MAX deal that puts up 12+6

Kuzzy 07-16-2008 05:10 PM

lolllllllllll dumbest trade ever

Dr. J. Naismith 07-17-2008 10:03 AM

Camby's apparently insulted by the trade. :cwm34:

Boo-fuckin'-who .... shut up and roll around in your millions.

Denver moved Camby to Los Angeles without getting anything in return, allowing them to cut roughly $10 million from their cap number.

"When I first heard about the trade, I felt like I was the scapegoat after all our past first-round exits and failures and lack of defense," Camby said. "I felt it was them telling me that I was no longer wanted, and I was the cause of everything that went wrong the last couple years on this team."

"I'm still in disbelief. I'm still in shock. I still can't believe this happened."
