Default Bynum's knees won't ever return to full strength - ongoing degeneration

Quote:
At one point during the discussion, Bayless said that a source inside the Sixers organization told him that the most recent MRI on Andrew Bynum’s knees showed degeneration, meaning in effect that they will never return to full strength. Bynum was also a no-show in the locker room prior to Tuesday's game, when he was scheduled to give an update on his condition. Bayless continued by explaining that Andrew may show some flashes of the dominance he displayed last season, when he averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game for the Lakers, but he will be unable to sustain it, as the knees will never be able to fully recover.

Absolutely agree...kid has the talent, drive and attitude to be one of the best centers...and to have your body fail you like that, and so young...

Getting Howard for a player that may be forced to retire....too bad really, thought Bynum was going to be better than D12.

Lakers will get better though....more egos to assimilate...more than what Miami / NY had to deal with. When the Lakers click it should make the West interesting.

You don't trust the league? Or you don't trust other GMs to make trades with Mitch-K? You afraid to get Mitch-slapped?

If the Lakers miss the playoffs, which is still a possibility, they have to send their lottery pick to Phoenix, and they could lose Howard with no compensation, since there is zero incentive for Howard's agent to work a S&T unless Howard wants to go to a capped out team (Houston will have space and James Harden).

Things are not so rosie in Laker-land.

Also, you guys realize that the docs thought Howard's career might be over after the back surgery, right? You have to consider both sides. There was risk involved for any team that took Howard, as well.

The Lakers traded Bynum pre bowling incident. I can't see the full article, but there is no indication that the severity of the knee condition was apparent pre bowling incident.

I'm skeptical that a 'bowling' injury is the root cause of the degenerative state of his knees.

POSTED: Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 3:13 PM

On Wednesday’s episode of ESPN’s debate-style show, First Take, there was a segment dedicated to the struggling 76ers, in which anchors Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless discussed the state of the franchise going forward after Tuesday’s embarrassing loss to Orlando that prompted head coach Doug Collins to question his team's effort.

At one point during the discussion, Bayless said that a source inside the Sixers organization told him that the most recent MRI on Andrew Bynum’s knees showed "degeneration," meaning in effect that they will never return to full strength.

Keep in mind that this is not an official report, and the fact that Bayless, not known for his NBA connections, would be the only one with access to the information should make one somewhat skeptical.

However, if turns out to be true, this would be a huge revelation for the Sixers.

The difficult decision as to whether or not they should take a chance on signing Bynum to a lucrative, long-term deal would be defunct as re-signing him could mean several more years of knee issues and little (or no) production.

If this report is true, then you can bet Bynum and the Sixers will go their separate ways.

I did not mention anything about "root cause". I said that there was no indication that it was "apparent", as in no physicals by the Lakers or Philly picked it up.

Fair enough, but it's not like the Lakers are going to publish their findings for everyone.

LaMarcus Aldridge has a man crush on Bynum. I think he really wants Portland to go get this lunker.

hahahaha come on Billy, it wasn't reported, but it was there. If it's there now, it was there last year.... Bynum has had issues in the past.

Anyhow.... shitty luck for Bynum. he was a good player
