I'm not trying to be a dick...just thinking out loud here....wasn't this already reported months ago? I thought I read about this back when Ainge tried to trade Rondo for Paul. I could swear this story was leaked back then.

I think the Perkins for Green part might be new, the Rondo-Westbrook is definitely old.

why would Boston want to trade Rondo? did they realize that he's reached his top and is not going to improve?

Rondo hasn't been the healthiest guy lately, and i don't think his biggest weakness (shooting) will go away. he may improve a little but who goes from horrible to good? it's very very rare. it also may be physical (huge hands, he's like a 7 footer).

While Westbrook has amazing upside, his stock seemed down. He could catch up with Rose. Physically, he looks like he could be as good a defender as Rondo someday.
And, Celtics could really use some penetration.
Not to mention, they could really use Perkins.

It's an awesome deal for Celtics. But if they did make that call, I doubt they actually expected a yes. It's too good.

Westbrook > Rondo is debatable. I think Westbrook forces too many shots and is not a great passer. He averaged a great deal of assists but he has shooters everywhere. You can argue Rondo is surrounded by 3 HOF's, but it's also obvious he's one of the most creative and talented passers around.

Rondo on OKC they probably could of won it all last year, Westbrook trys to force way too much, and his jumper is terrible, but so is Rondo's. I'd say Rondo is better about everywhere else though, better passer and defender by far.

To me this reeks of desperation.

Something tells me that Rondo aint happy there no more and wants out. Why are they trying to get rid of one of the best PG's in the league.

+ a healthy Rondo is a power on defense. Westbrook so far is the one who needs others to cover for him.
to me, healthy Rondo > Westbrook.
but then there's health, fit and upside, and that's why they'd rather have Westbrook.

Rondo has missed a combined 26 games in his first 5 seasons. I don't think health is a major issue.

and another 150 games he played like shit because of a thousand small legs issues. don't you watch Celts?
Westbrook on the other hand is probably the healthiest player in the NBA.

I'm not sure he played like "shit" in that many games, but I see the point you're trying to make. Even when Rondo was playing in the second half of last season, he was frequently battling some nagging injury.

14 of those were last season.

Yeah, normally that's not a lot, but Rondo would probably try to play with a broken leg, so that 14 figure can be misleading. It's like 20+ in terms of actual damage to the body. Although that characteristic is great to have during the NBA finals, it can work against a player during the regular season when it's a marathon, not a sprint. There were a couple of occasions when Rondo probably should have shut it down for a few games and didn't, which only allowed things to linger.

In the past 15 months, Rondo has had problems with a Hamstring, a tweaked Knee, Plantar Fasciitis, a couple of sprained ankles, and an elbow injury. Some argued (last season) that his leg should have been shut down for a while (I think it was after the hammy problem) so he could heal. It's possible the first leg/foot problem contributed to the other nagging injuries.

Dude plays hard but it has consequences.

Seriously.. One of the most baffling trades I have ever SEEN was shipping out Perkins.. Why in God's name would they do that? Why DID they?

Perkins, Garnett, Pierce, Allen and Rondo? That was one hell of a line-up, mean muggin' mofos..

Was it a money issue? Because Perkin's was looking for a 10M/Year contract?

I just never really understood, I hated Perkins with a passion because they were such a bad ass line-up with him.

That's a horrible trade. Rondo can't score for then 12, and Jeff Green is probably out for the season. This sounds more like a Red Sox trade, then it does the Celtics.

yep it was basically all of last season, he played with plantar fasciitis the whole time (the same thing as Tyreke Evans). He had a short string of good real Rondo games, and then the pain kicked in.
and some playoff series before that.
150 may be too much, i basically pulled that number out of a hat, but it's a lot bad games due to fasciitis and bad sprains, and it's mostly recent.
It's incomparable with Westbrook, i'm not sure that he ever had an injury other than small sprains.

rondo has become predictable.
keep him out of the paint, and his offense is non existent... he cant hit a shot to save his life.
look at the playoffs and the second half of last season when the C's started struggling. teams are playing off of him and playing him for the pass. he passes 99% of the time! even on easy layup attempts.
sure, he is one of the best passers in the game, but its too predictable now.

Westbrook on the other hand is (after rose) the deadliest scoring PG in the game. he's young, that 'forcing of shots' issue can be fixed.
