Funny that the Wizards owner leaked this into the media and went straight to the police just to try and get out of that awful contract they handed out. If Gilbert was playing well and had a reasonable contract I wonder if this would have ever even gotten out.

Yup. You gotta wonder. There was probably obvious concerns about legal liability should some one get hurt in the future. Having said that, I definitely think this might have been handled differently of the other variables were different (ie. Gil's contract, his less than stellar play, and the Wizards lack of sucess).

Honestly, I don't particularly like Arenas as a player or a person, but I really feel bad for a person when their life starts to unravel. I mean, this is not the only shit he's got to worry about. As some of us have discussed in the past, Arenas and his wife are not on the best of terms, and that situation was put in the public. Assuming it's all true, it would probably start to get heavy on the mind knowing your wife is fucking another player. It sucks even more when everyone knows about it. Even if it's not true, some people will always think it is. To be honest, given the feelings of emasculation that come with being cheated on (assuming it's true), the fact that Arenas was involved in a macho gun wielding disply doesn't surprise me. It may be isolated from his other problems, but even I was thinking..."shit, I wonder if his wife's cheating is going to drag him down this year." If the team saw signs of him being affected by the other personal stuff, I wonder if they took any steps to offer him some kind of help dealing with that. I wonder if they would have been more concerned if the conditions were different...(they were challenging for a high playoff seed...etc..)

Frasier is actually a decent show. I never liked it when it was new, but I watched a few re-runs. it's not bad.

Not a big fan either, the brother with the english accent and an old guy with a dog at home was my piece of pie.

If i was the GM & Owner of the Wizards i would be fuming, not just at Gilbert Arenas but the entire team. They're laughing it up with something so serious which reflects poorly on the team and organization, and secondly the org. is paying this team a whopping combined 79 Million dollars and they're a piss poor 11-22and again look at them laughing it up!

I`d be blowing this team up to bits!!

the worst part about that picture is that in the morning (before that game), Gilbert issued a statement about how sorry he was about the gun incident and how remorseful he was and that he was taking everything serious, blah, blah, blah... then a few hours later he's caught doing this crap.
this makes me so happy... theres nothing worse than these fuckers who talk about how sorry they are and try to be so innocent - and its all a lie, because in reality they dont give a shit - they just try to play the innocent/remorse card.
gilbert should fry. give him the season Stern.

crittenton actions are more stupid that arenas's i dont even think he played a single game in the nba he might not ever get a chance now.

There are indications that the N.B.A. is now considering new gambling restrictions for players. On Wednesday, the Nets informed players that gambling was no longer permitted on team flights.

“We did,” Rod Thorn, the Nets’ president, said Thursday in a telephone interview in which he confirmed that the team had instituted a ban. “I think after this incident with the Wizards that we just decided that we would not have any on our planes. We’ve never had a problem with it. But obviously, you can see what can happen.”

Some of Sam Mitchell's thoughts:

Quote:

For Mitchell, the most troubling aspect of the incident was the way Arenas reacted afterward and he fully understands why David Stern and the NBA took action.

"Having the gun in the locker room is a no-no and that is upsetting enough, but the commissioner and more people are upset that [Arenas] doesn't understand the severity of what he did. And that is the thing that is blowing people's minds.

"It's not a joking matter, you don't tweet about it, you don't joke about, it is something you don't make hand gestures about."

The former coach thinks that the player's union will be able to help Arenas understand the severity of the infraction and that in time he will be back in the NBA.

"I believe if Gilbert learns his lesson and pays the price, whatever that price will be that the commissioner hands it down, and he pays his price understanding what he did, then I think he will be given the opportunity to play again."

Mitchell went on to comment that the way the NBA handled the incident should be a straightforward message to the rest of the league.

"Gilbert is a quirky guy, but he is not a bad guy and you hate to see something like this happen, but at the end of the day, he and other players who have thought of bringing a gun into the locker room have to understand it is a huge no-no and won't be tolerated. I think David Stern sent that message loud and clear."
