Jennings and Lowry assist rates are almost identical but Jennings is a better scorer though less efficient. Lowry rebounds slightly better and plays defense. I would like to say Jennings has a higher ceiling than KL, as others have, but I don't quite agree.
I have a question -

Would Jennings offense be more valuable than Lowry's defense?

If defense is taught and Jennings is 23, can he learn it or is it better to finally slow down and let a starting 5 actually play together for once?
Lowry's defense hasn't been anything spectacular.

Jennings has a combination of quickness and length at the pg spot that make him a very capable and dangerous scorer, that same combination will make him a very good defender in the league. IMO his ceiling defensively is higher than Lowrys.

Lowry has to make some really hard shots to finish inside - Jennings doesn't. He's quicker and he's able to extend faster and get the ball to the backboard or up above the defender.

IMO Jennings is a young Gary Payton. Give him a few years to mature. He has the tools to be one of the best pgs in the league. Lowry has the tools to be a very solid point guard in the league.

If Lowry took 16 shots per game he'd also average 17.5ppg or better. Their offense is pretty much a wash as they score at about the same rate even though Lowry has a better per. Lowry's a better defender and rebounder, they get steals and turn the ball over at about the same rate and they're a wash in apg. Even though in the second half of the season Lowry averaged around 7.5 apg vs Jennings 6.6apg. And Lowry had a down year.

Right now these two are in the same tier and it's a matter of what style you prefer. IMO Lowry fits this team far better b/c next to Derozan you better have a PG that can defend, and when Lowry has two healthy ankles he's a top 5 defender at his position.

Meh, Lowry and Jennings seem to score with similar %'s - fg% and 3pt%. I guess that's why I asked "would Jennings add another scoring threat and maximize his team mates looks or would he take shots away from the others".

TBT, I'm not really sure. It's not like KL balances it out with more apg or spg or is a more efficient scorer, but he does play defense and I like his aggressiveness.

If we could get a player like Ily by taking Jennings and trading KL/Bargs - I would be very hard pressed to say no. I like Ily, I've debated on here before since I believe he can play both forward spots and would bring great versatility to the table. He would also slide Amir to the bench and as much as I have espoused that he deserves the starter spot, Amir off the bench would be killer for the Raps (but only for a player like Ily - a stretch 4 that can play defense and rebound). Jennings/DD/Gay/Ily/JV with Amir/T.Ross/Acy off the bench sounds pretty good only because Bargs is gone and Ily is here.

Another option is just screw this thread, be happy with a starting 5 fans can be proud off and sign a player like Jerebko - really good player despite his struggles this year (might be the right time to pluck him from Detroit).

You make a strong case with this post.

one thing to consider, how good can Jennings become since he's only 23/24 playing somewhere he wants to be(Toronto) and being more motivated(not saying that he isn't in Milwaukee, but clearly he loves our city)?

That intangible could be the biggest difference but you just won't know unless he's here.

I've been on the Jerebko bandwagon since he first ran all over Bargnani. Big Jerebko fan.

So you would like him more if you didn't foolishly pick him up on your fantasy team?

One thing that's telling to me, if not slightly disturbing is that I haven't heard Bucks fans are saying jack about him wearing another team's gear. But you know full well it would be a big issue if he wore multiple Lakers, Knicks or Bulls gear. Speaks to our position in the NBA to an extent.

Lowry hasn't been 100% this whole season. I know what we have in that guy, and he is better than Jennings.

I picked him up midseason for a month and he stunk. But i've never found him to be that great, wildly inconsistent.

100% on the first part

Question (for anybody really), if their offense, distribution, steals, FG%, etc is a wash (at the moment), and the deciding factor between them is dependent on if a 23 year old Jennings can increase his defensive capabilities, is Jennings an equal fit here in TO and if he is, would Jennings/Ily be worth trading KL/Bargs for?

I found him useful the year before, I was surprised actually about midseason - he spent a lot of time riding the pine (very inconsistent minutes from the coach).

Maybe that was one of the reason the Pistons coach was fired.

Some fan reactions from a Milwaukee board:

RealGM • View topic - Brandon Jennings rockin alot of Toronto Apparel

Quote:
They can have him.
Quote:
Wants to join DeRozan to form the most inefficient Compton duo in NBA history.
Quote:
I hope they overpay for him in the offseason.
Quote:
He also LOVES Drake.

I'm hoping we can work out a sign and trade.
Quote:
It's funny how Jennings was showing such emotion in Game 1. Was talking to teammates, celebrating his good plays with gestures and looking like he actually cared.

You can't tell me he played like this at all this year. The national TV audience and playoff glitz has him finally playing hard.

I don't want a guy who turns it on and off at will. GTFO
Quote:
Yeah my thoughts too. I reference this in the post game thread that I'm interested how he plays the rest of the series. During the regular season he'll usually follow a good game with an ice cold clunker and/or look disinterested. Suddenly he looks energized, engaged, talking like a leader, etc. Its all about trying to get that contract, and it may just work.
Quote:
yeah dude is a Drake stan, but it would be funny seeing him flop in Toronto with his SG mirror image.
Quote:
Which means we can take the opportunity to get them below the tax and siphon their 2014 pick.

Jennings for Lowry, Kleiza, Fields, 2014 1st.
Quote:
I would easily deal BJ for Ross
Quote:
None of the Raptors fans want him......what a surprise.

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1246598

If given the choice, most would prefer to keep Lowry.
Quote:
Do we seriously hate the Raps fans enough to make the sit through a starting five of -

Jennings
DeRozan
Gay
Bargnani
Val

I'd carve my eyes out with a spoon if I was forced to watch that.
Quote:
Have a sick feeling Bargnani will be a Buck next season. Just seems like something Hammond would do...
Quote:
Well there's this and the wiretap at the top of the page that Colangelo wants to add vets and shooting this offseason. Jennings/Ilyasova for Lowry/Ross makes sense to me. Reminds me of TJ for CV.
Quote:
I've got way, way, way more valid things to complain about Brandon Jennings than what jerseys and hats he wants to wear.
Quote:
so you guys make up a thread about the clothes he is wearing, just so you can bash him? WOW smh.
Quote:
I find it more embarrassing that Jennings is one of our best players.
Quote:
Lowry's contract expires at the end of next season and assuming the Raps pay Jennings 10mil per ... Lowry+Ross would be equivalent salary in trade.
Quote:
No kidding

It was bad enough that Brandon hasn't improved his game a lick in four years and there has been a near yearly ritual of him pouting over any number of things, but to top it off he's a big fan of Drake who is straight up garbage.

^ Fans love him

I think it has more to do with how the fans view Jennings.

Those posts are really irrelevant. Depending on what the Bucks are doing dictates what they are going to say. Not like we have frustrated posters over here either, know what I'm saying Jeffb

Brandon Jennings: Anyone thinking of overpaying Jennings this summer will ignore his crunch-time numbers (abysmal) and shot selection (dubious), and concentrate on things like "he's fun to watch" (mostly true), "he's charismatic" (definitely true) and "he's only going to keep getting better and better" (you'd think that would be true). Well …

Year 1 (age 20): 32.6 MPG, 15.5 PPG, 5.7 APG, 37-37-82%, 14.5 PER
Year 4 (age 23): 36.2 MPG, 17.5 PPG, 6.5 APG, 40-38-82%, 16.1 PER

So he's barely improved in four NBA seasons? That's weird. Wait, I'm getting flashbacks to another overrated lefty point guard who peaked in his first four years, never improved, ended up getting overpaid and started tailing off in Year 5 … uh-oh … wait a second … GOOD GOD, THAT'S DAMON STOUDAMIRE'S MUSIC!!!!!!
