Lol... funny shit right here. Brand's Agent some guy named Falk or Balk or sumthing went and screwed the Clips. Some L.A. Newspaper reported that The Clips fixed their offer to about 81 mill and Brand's agent did not retur their calls. LMAO. He did this because long when the clips had #1 pick in draft they promised him they'd take his guy Mike Bibby, but they instead took Oliwankandi. I'll get the thread started soon.

Default Brand to 76ers

Apparently Brand will sign with the 76ers. It's interesting to read the reactions on ESPN, Hollinger goes on to say that they are an "instant contender" right now. None of the articles on the theme even mention the O'Neal trade ... Sometimes it's really really annoying to be treated like you don't even exist.

On another note, the Atlantic division is quickly becoming a powerhouse, only 1 year removed from the status of the "Titanic" division ...

Well i'd like to disagree somewhat

who was the draft class in the Kandy Man's Year

Vince Carter
Bibby
Antwan Jameson
Dirk

Kwame Browns Draft Class

Joe Johnson
Shane Battier
richardson

picking Olikiwandhi (ugh cant spell his name) was a huge backfire compared to other players that came outta the draft in 98

ok, so if this trade makes Philly instant contenders, I fail to see how a similar trade only makes us worthy of fighting for the 8th playoff spot (or even worse)? We clearly were a better team compared to the 76ers (they had virtually no injuries all year and only caught up to us toward the end, when we had all sorts of problems with TJ's attitude and other shit like that). Brand is a better scorer and O'Neal is a better defender, they both had their share of injuries and their age is pretty close too. Both cover the most pressing need for their new teams. If they are going to be instant contenders, then so should we, don't you think?

It's because Philly has a lot of cap space left to make some more signings.

And we traded for Jermaine for 3 others. They just signed Brand.

Uh, yeah, it does.

We lost two significant contributors and a draft pick. They lost nothing.

And I'm not sure why you were expecting talk about the Jermaine deal in an article about Elton Brand two weeks after the fact.

The NBA media were all over the JO deal when it went down, and plenty of people said it made the Raps immediate contenders as well. It's old news.

If you're looking for headlines that read "Sixers Sign Brand. Raptors Still Have O'Neal" you're going to be dissapointed.

you cant really look at other prospects in a players draft class when you label them a bust or not...
a bust is a player (in this case the # 1 pick) who does absolutely NOTHING his entire career but fail.

Olowokandi at least put up some respectable numbers:
first season he put up 9/8
second season 10/8
his best season was 12/9

which isnt too shabby for a bigman.
sure, it isnt number 1 caliber stats, but its not as terrible as kwame brown's career avg of: 7/5

Technically Philly lost two players and a first round pick to make room for Brand, and they lose a lot more financial flexibilty than the Raptors did, and all for a guy that has never been all that much more than average in terms of impact. I can remember Michael Curry defending him pretty well in the crunch. Of course the impact on Philly could actually happen if it's the right mix, but it has to be the right mix right now, because making for the right mix in the future by adding players, just got a little more tricky.

They lost two players who were hardly even rotation guys. And they apparantly have first rounders stocked up, so they won't be giving it away in a year when they have no other picks, like Toronto did.

Financially, you're absolutely right, but I was comparing it simply for the sake of this season's results.

As for his impact...who's the last Clipper who made a big impact? I mean, the team was brutal basically the whole time he was there, so as far as impact goes it's kind of hard to expect any more than consistent 20 and 10s out of him.

But yes, this is the core of Philadelphia's team for the forseeable future. Even if they let Dre walk after this season, they're going to have trouble bringing in any more impact players.
