Celtics Brad Stevens is the new Celtics head coach

Didn't see this move coming...

Quote:
In an era saturated with leaky sources and social media, the Boston Celtics dropped a massive in-house surprise on Wednesday night that absolutely nobody saw coming. A week after letting former coach Doc Rivers move off to the Los Angeles Clippers, they’ve hired 36-year old former Butler coach Brad Stevens as just the 13th head coach in the team’s post-Red Auerbach history.

strong tank move. he's a smart coach but will take some time to get used to the nba. perfect for them right now.

KG is 37. That would've been odd.

He's an amazing coach, and what better way for a new coach to get acclimated into the NBA than in a tanking season.

last time the Celtics hired a college coach was Pitino. the tank was strong with those teams.

I still dont understand why teams give coaches 4+ year contracts, especially to new Head Coaches, knowing full well that the likelyhood they make it through to the end of their deal is very very small judging by past experience around the league. It's so dumb.

I think he'll succeed. He has the best win percentage of all time in his first six seasons as a head coach in the NCAA and his teams sucked. He took his team to back to back final fours and his teams sucked. Yes it's never guaranteed that college coaches can translate into good NBA coaches but this guy is as good a bet as any, he is a basketball genius.

Why pay an experienced coach big $ to be on a losing team when a new guy can do it for cheap.

I guess one could say the same about Rudy Gay and a 2014 draftee

so they can pay them less per year. Stevens will get $3.5mil/year. Rivers gets $7 mil/year.

I can't see this guy accepting any idea of tanking. He seems like a guy that could get a lot out of a lesser roster.

At the very least, I can now stop persuading myself that Butler will go far in the tourney.

Honestly, he's a great coach. I'm really intrigued to see what he can do at this level.

he would probably fetch close to the same type of money if he signed with ucla

guy has done well for himself, he earned that contract

I heard some guys on the radio busting on stevens for being to young, 36, I would like to point out Erick spoelstra is now 42 years old, he coached the heat for how long now
