An NBA executive told the Boston Globe today that the Minnesota Timberwolves is working a deal with the Phoenix Suns that would send former Celtics forward Al Jefferson and their sixth pick in next week's NBA Draft for All-Star Amare Stoudemire.

The Suns, which have dangled Stoudemire for some time, fiound a suitor in Minnesota that is in transition. The team announced today that coach Kevin McHale has ended his 15-year association with the team. New basketball of operations David Kahn is looking to take the franchise into another direction.
That would be suicide for Minnesota!

Amare is legit, but Minnesota would go nowhere with Stoudemire + spare parts.

I think Al has more upside now.

Let's give them Bargs and the 9th for Al?!

He's probably unhappy about the coaching decision.

Yeah, i`m sure he`d be thrilled to play for an acclaimed coach like Jay Triano?

This article needs to be pmed to LVP of East Hollywood. If this is even close to true it makes him look really smart for the Bosh for Pavlovic and 30th pick idea. Thats way better than Al Jefferson and a lotto pick, or Al Jeff alone.

PS Al Jefferson>Amare at this point.

This would be basically the dumbest trade of all time if it happened. At least stuff like Dirk for Tractor Traylor didn't look bad at the time, the Gasol deal was facilitated by higher ups, and Vince for Zo/Williams/#16 was forced by his ask out

Wolves can't be this dumb. Not even if McHale was still GM!

And Al Jefferson has a BYC so it's like impossible to trade him before the draft, anyways

I'm surprised this wasn't written by Peter Vecsey or Hoopsworld

This is only the case if Al wants out.

He said in the middle of the season he'd be really REALLY upset if they let mchale go as coach... and that's just what they did.

Both are coming off injury riddled campaigns, and Amare's was less severe(eye). Albeit he's had trouble with his knee as well in the past. The 6th pick seems unecessary though-t wolves need all the help they can get at this juncture.

horrible trade for the Wolves.
Al Jeff > Amare... and to add the 6th pick is just outright ridiculous.
maybe his knee is worse than we know.... as far as i'm concerned, the only way this deal is on the table for Minny is if Jefferson's knee is damaged more than people realize.

Jefferson staying put with Wolves

An NBA source said today that Minnesota forward-center Al Jefferson is not being traded to the Suns with the sixth overall pick for Suns All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire. An NBA executive told The Globe on Wednesday that both teams were discussing the trade. But another source said today that the Suns made the trade offer to the Wolves recently and were turned down. The source added that the Wolves new general manager David Kahn has even called Jefferson, an ex-Celtic, to tell him the trade would not happen. As for Stoudemire, the cost-cutting Suns definitely seem interesting in moving him and his hefty salary.
Celtics Blog - Boston.com

Sounds like the "discussion" went something like:

Steve Kerr: Hey, what about Amare for Al Jefferson and the 6th pick

Kahn: Is this a joke?

Kerr: Well alright. Let's keep this discussion going, call me back if you're interested

Kahn: I'm n-*Kerr hangs up*

Kerr - psst executive... go tell the Boston globe we're discussing Al Jeff and the 6th for Amare. Then people think his trade value's higher than Hickson and a 1st. Ftw!

this rumor was already shot down. The Wolves would never do that. A 20/10 machine and the 6th pick for Amare? Never.

Al Jefferson has his head more in check and has a lengthier contract, which in this case is a good thing. Why would you want to blow up your team any further when you have already established a promising Jefferson/Love frontcourt?
