Bogut to Sign $72.5M deal
I think he signed for the perfect amount. Not to high and not too low. Almost didn't happen either, Bogut was close to going to Australia. :reporter:

PG - Williams (17.2 ppg / 6.3 ast) SG - Redd (22.7 ppg / 3.4 ast) SF - Jefferson (22.6 ppg / 4.2 rebs) PF - Alexander (16.9 ppg / 6.4 rebs - West Virginia) C - Bogut (14.3 ppg / 9.8 rebs) That's what I call solid. |

I think Villanueva will start at power forward, with Alexander providing bench help at the 3 and the 4...but obviously that could go either way.
They have a lot of money tied up in a few contracts at this point. This team, while solid and likely a playoff team, does not scream title contender to me. Especially when their less than excellent depth is taken into consideration. This seems like a long term commitment to mediocrity. |

But seriously if this team could get their chemistry a little more they'll be a pretty good team this year. I'm looking at about 47 wins for these guys. |
Charlie V's contract is done this year.
|
That's a pretty high price for a 3rd option big man, that's Bosh money. I know he has potential to be a lot more for them, but I dunno, I think he deserved more around 10 mil.
|
I never understood why this team is so crap.
They usually have solid talent, just can't put it together. |

I still see them as a 36-40 win team in the East. They'll be extremely competitive though.

I like Bogut... he's a big, tough Center with loads of potential and he keeps getting better...
that being said however, that is a lot of money to throw at him. thats like 14.5 million a year... seems too high IMO. the bucks are big underacheivers. they've got a great team on paper, but it never comes out in games. Redd is a one-diensional B-list star who is only good for one thing. Williams seems to be missing something that would make him an elite PG. CV will coast most of the season. and their bench isnt good. the big things they got going for them is Bogut and the newly acquired RJ - who should bring some excitement to the team. we'll see how Alexander does, he has the skills to be very good as well. but overall, this team seems to be just so blah... maybe its because they're from Milwaukee. |

But yeah, you're right. They've been trying to build a team around a great shooter. Never worked with Ray Allen, and it wasn't going to work with Michael Redd either. Jefferson is a slasher at the 3 though, and I think Mo Williams is one of the more underrated point guards in the league. Redd will get less looks simply due to the added talent, but they will be better looks. Bogut is excellent in a number of facets of the game, and has been consistently improving. It might be a lot of money, but you can hardly fault them for locking up one of the league's only above average centres. When you see the money that guys like Dalembert and Blount are making, it puts this into perspective a bit. Size and skill combinations at the 5 spot are at a premium in the NBA right now. You have to overpay for quality size. And Alexander is a freak. The size, speed, athleticism combo on his is absolutely ridiculous. His actual basketball skills have only really developed in the last year though, so to expect a lot more than nice highlights from him next year is optimistic. |
I see Alexander as a carbon copy of Tyrus Thomas to be honest. There's a lot to be excited about but will he be able to translate that success in athleticism into actual basketball skills to me is a big question mark. I'm not sold on him by any stretch of the imagination.

I mean, Alexander was the primary offensive option on a very good team. They would give him the ball and let him go to work. He's shown he has skills he can build off, even if they aren't at the NBA level yet. Alexander was a bonafied scorer in college this year. He'll have to adjust his game to the NBA, but it seems the skill set is there. At no point in his NCAA career (one year, I know, but still) did Tyrus Thomas give any indication that he could be an offensive option. No jump shot, no handle, no ability to create. Alexander has shown all of those things on some level. Tyrus was basically a fast break finisher and a pogo stick on defense who benefitted from a deep tournament run and the fantastic play of Big Baby Davis that year. I see what you're getting at, in that Alexander shot up draft boards out of nowhere. But he had an absolutely phenomenal NCAA tournament, and he's shown significantly more skill already than Tyrus Thomas has ever shown. |
Alexander is known a lot right now because of how he finished the season. He’s an athletic forward with good length, and has a fairly solid inside-outside game. He has good touch around the basket, knows how to finish, and can get to the line with ease. He has a very good post up game, passes well out of double-teams, and has good lateral quickness.
He’s still developing his perimeter skills though. He needs to work on his ball handling and passing ability and be consistent on his outside shots. Strengthening his frame wouldn’t hurt, either. Joe will be a great scoring threat in the years to come and will definitely be better than Tyrus Thomas will ever be. |
Also, word is that Alexander is "obsessed with getting better"
Tyrus Thomas? I'm gonna say not so much |
yea i've heard that
this team is good but almost all the players are injury prone(redd, bogut, CV) |
Injury prone is a little too much.
Injury prone is when the players have 2-3 season where they don't even play half the games, or close to it anyway. Redd had only one season where he made about 55 games or something like that. The rest of the seasons were fine. CV had one season where made about 40 games, but it was his hamstring and was the only season where he missed more than 10 games. Bogut only missed 15 games in 06-07 with his sprained foot |
I'll be interested to see how Jefferson makes out without Kidd.
