Default Blockbuster Sixers-Knicks deal in the works?

Very interesting...VERY VERY interesting...What do you guys think?

Quote:
One team that is apparently looking to move up in this draft is Philadelphia, thanks to the plethora of cap space they will enjoy coming July 1st. The Sixers are reportedly realizing that there could be very few quality unrestricted free agents available that they could realistically sign, making their precious cap space essentially useless.

One trade that is making the rounds would involve the Knicks sending Zach Randolph and the rights to the #6 pick to Philadelphia for a smaller contract, such as Reggie Evans, and the rights to the #16 pick—after July 1st (when Philadelphia’s cap space kicks in). New York would move into position to have significant cap space in the summer of 2010 (possibly to make a run at LeBron James) by unloading the 17.3 million dollars owed to Randolph in 2010/11, and would still be able to keep David Lee around.

Philadelphia would fill a big void at power forward with a 20 point per game scorer in Zach Randolph, and possibly pick up one of Jerryd Bayless, O.J. Mayo or Eric Gordon in the process, while only sacrificing the 8-9 million dollars they are expected to have in cap space, which likely wouldn’t get them very far anyway.

"NY and cap space" in the same sentence just doesn't sound right.

but sure, the move makes sence for both teams somewhat.

Would this really be considered a "blockbuster" Hoops?

Okay, maybe not blockbuster , but it's a pretty big deal.

I think it's a decent deal for Philly. They might be able to use that pick on Bayless and including Z-Bo to the roster means that the starting 5 next year could possibly be:

Dalembert
Randolph
TYoung
Iguodala
Bayless

That's a nice starting 5.

Knicks start the movement of cap space. That's HUGE on their part

i think its pretty big... considering its happening in our conference.
Philly will be awesome if this goes down.
i hate randolph, but adding his 20/10 with Iggy and Dalembert... and adding a lottery pick... they will be a good team.
and NY sets its eyes on Lebron in 2010.

Wow this would really make Philly tough to beat.As for the Knicks it would help them with cap space but they'll probably screw that up anyway. They're the Maple leafs of the NBA.

Zach Randolph makes Philly good?

Oh yeah - he's the same guy that made NY such a force to be reckoned with. That worked out well.

I think that in a better environment with youth and better coaching he would be a good fit in Philly.

I hope this deal happens, that way we won't have to worry about Philadelphia next year

Seriously, acquiring Randolph at this point is the dumbest thing any GM can do. He's unique in the sense that he legitimately makes you a much worse team just by being there. There's guys that damage by taking up lots of contract room, there's useless bench players, but Randolph is alone that he single handidly kills your team. Portland traded him for nothing, and it was a steal in their favor!

On the other side, it would be brilliant if the Knicks could trade Randolph for anyone before that heavy FA season. Sounds like they're already on their way back up.

I remember hoping Toronto would draft him the year they took Michael Bradley at 17. I wouldn't want him now but you never know what getting out of NY might do for the guy - if he had his head on straight he could be a good fit in Philly.

In the right system, Z-Bo will thrive. I think the Sixers would be a good fit for Zach. I don't blame Randolph's problems last season on just him alone, but more the disaster known as the New York Knicks. Randolph is still a helluva PF and under the right tutelage I think he still has alot to offer.

So, if the Sixers can keep their core together and add someone like Z-Bo then I think they improve even more than they already did last season. They just have to re-sign Iggy and figure out what to do with Miller. If they stay then there's no reason why they won't be one of the better teams in the East next season. JMO

the thing with Randolph is that you just have to get him to understand his role and get him to fit in your system... and he'll thrive.
i think on Philly, he'll be really darn good.
he isnt option 1, and he'll just be counted on to go in there and grab boards and score - which is what he does best.
i dont see how toronto fans can diss his game... he absolutely destroys us whenever he plays us... he's a big boy who can grab boards and score, period.
Philly is in desperate need of a PF like that.

I'd be surprised if this actually happens. Randolph would slow this team down, unless he finally starts to get in shape. That #6 would be very tempting though. Eric Gordan would be a good draft for the Sixers.
