The only owner (aka prick, and for the record I like) I can see fucking with the Blazers is Cuban.

^^I cant really see how they could do that.

Really, no crime in signing a player to a 10 day contract.

Darius could threaten to sue Portland for interferring in his chances to play in the NBA if thats the case.

LOL Doc, I was just coming in to start exactly the same thread. Actually, this is quite fascinating to me. Can someone explain what the situation is here? I don't quite understand it.

that's so fucking wrong.

miles and the players' union should immediately file lawsuits against portland. and if they do nothing, against the league for depraved indifference.

the whole reason why they were granted the injury benefits was because miles "is" unable to play basketball. "is" being the key word. the whole time miles insisted he was willing and able to play. he proved his ability with boston in the preseason (which interestingly the league kept hushed regarding those games' affect on the ten-game count).

if miles can play, which he can, there should be no injury benefit. portland is engaging nefarious means to disallow miles from playing for their benefit. the trailblazers should be treated like every other team that decides they don't want a player under contract on their roster.

i think they've gotten used to special treatment. the league awarded them seattle's greater local area as their own rather than dividing its broadcast revenue amongst the league as it should have been (coincidence that portland was an early and often voter in favour of seattle relocating?). and more poignant, the league looks away every summer when teams somehow always find portland's $3MM more valuable than every other team's $3MM and sell them their picks.

unlike money shipped to teams under the table, this action is obvious, traceable, public, and proven. portland should immediately have the medical benefits forfeited, be fined, and should probably lose picks or whatever can be levied as money has disproportionately small effect against them--that's why they're so pissed, the cap forces them to play by the rules. they're trying to use collusion, destruction of a man's right to earn a living, ill will and more, to get around the rules.

edit. i'm really pissed at this. where the hell's the players' union? they should be hollering bloody murder

BC, please, I know you can: sign the guy and fuck the Blazers.

And if the NBA just says something, play them the vid of him blocking shots in his last game with the Grizz.

I love my men Sergio and Rudy, but fuck the team. They said he could not play again and he has already played (and not looking bad amongst other players).

Indiana had to pay JO, NY is still paying Cuttino, Grizz had Cardinal ... injuries happen and players still play although their level is lower. That's part of the game.

He was also forced to sit out the 2007–08 season,[1] and in March 2008, the Portland Trail Blazers petitioned the NBA and the NBA Players Association to provide an independent doctor to decide if Miles would be able to play again.[5] Following the examination, it was determined that the damage to Miles' knee was severe enough to be classified as career-ending, prompting the Blazers to request waivers for his release on April 14, 2008. However, Miles had the option to sign on with another team if offered a contract.[1]"

miles has proven ineffective on both a weak bench and a weak team. if anyone goes to sign him, they're doing it in spite of the blazers. it's that clear. no gm will sign him, it's bad business. it's nothing that will handicap the blazers team, just the organization.

i don't know why this was put out thru the media - it's an unspoken rule.

no. those who can't remember, miles is getting paid nine million dollars by the blazers this season. anyone who picks him up is taking away their insurance coverage. dirty business. forget miles and his poor feelings, it's business.

A team in Portlands division should pick him up for a home and home against portland, and laugh, and laugh.

Union to file grievance against Blazers over Miles

I really hope someone goes ahead and signs Miles. All he needs is to play 2 days.

Teams are free to sign Darius Miles to a Uniform Player Contract, any such contract would be approved by the NBA
