Blazers Blazers refuse to extend Oden's rookie contract

LINK: Blazers confirm no deal for Oden before deadline - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP)A team spokesman says the Portland Trail Blazers wont offer a contract extension to former No. 1 pick Greg Oden before the Monday deadline.

The Oregonian reported Friday that the Blazers and Odens representatives agreed there would be no extension, making the oft-injured center the first top pick since Kwame Brown not to get one at the end of his rookie contract. Teams have until Monday to reach deals with first-round picks from the 2007 draft.

If I'm BC I try and snag Oden next summer at a decent price.

Blazers are stacked although it make sense to trade him and get something of value for a #1 draft pick.

he'll still be a restricted FA, so the Blazers have the option of matching any offers. I think they'll wait to see what the going rate is and will match... and the way things are currently, the going rate wont be much. The Blazers are smart, IMO, i dont see any team willing to throw big bucks at a player who has the body of a 40 year old, and in 3 years has only played 1/3 of his games, no matter how much potential he has.
they will end up re-acquiring him for cheap.

Oden still has more game then 85% of the centers in the league when healthy. When healthy he is a 14, 10, and 3 blocks guy. We could use a guy who can get us a high FG% in the paint. Also, our athletic trainers seem to be a lot better then Portlands. So Oden good possibly get a break here. 8mil deal for 2 years would sound about right.

not sure where you imagined those stats...
when healthy over his career (82 games to be exact), he's averaged 9 points and 7 rebounds, and 1 and a half blocks.

We should make a low ball offer just to stir the pot with them. I would love to see Oden here to fit in with other young players. I think he needs playing time and patience to develop. He has the tools but it still seems to be raw. A lot of big men became effective later in their careers (camby comes to mind right away). And by looking at our team, we can offer him that for the next couple of years.

Greg Oden is a waste of time, hes always injured. I'd take Bargnani > Oden any day.

Why are you even comparing the two? They don't do the same things. Oden isn't going to shoot 3's, and Bargnani won't out rebound or our defend Oden. You build title winning teams by improving on your weaknesses.

He averaged 11 pts/ 8.5 rbs/ and 2.3 blocks in 24 minutes in 21 starts last year...so if his minutes go up to about 30 those stats wouldn't be hard for him to acquire.
