Default Blazers new jerseys

Quote:
The Portland Trail Blazers are approaching their 40th anniversary, and they began the celebration Monday by unveiling two new uniforms: a red throwback (nice enough, right?) and a white alternate featuring one of Portland's nicknames.

Whether you like the "Rip City" design, hate it, or are just confused by it (here's an explanation), it's now poised to take its place in a relatively small category: uniforms with nicknames. Sometimes the nickname is on the front, sometimes on the back. Sometimes it's a slang term for the team name, sometimes for the player's name, and sometimes, uh, we still aren't sure what it means.

What you almost never see on a uniform, however, is a nickname for a city. That's what makes the "Rip City" jersey so unusual. To find a vaguely comparable example, you have to go all the way back to the days when the Warriors wore the coolest jersey design in NBA history.

i don't about 'love it', but i think it's pretty cool.

for one thing, i really think teams should play up their history and tradition. the 'retro' jersey does that.

If someone knows what Rip City means, by all means let me know.

The nickname Rip City is usually used in the context of the city's NBA team, the Portland Trail Blazers.[11] The term was coined by the team's legendary play-by-play announcer Bill Schonely during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Blazers' first season.[12] In a recurring segment on Comcast SportsNet Northwest, Schonely explained that a three-point play by Blazers' player Jim Barnett caused the net on the basket to rip. Schonely exclaimed "Rip City!" at the sight, and a member of his broadcasting team urged him to run with that as a rallying cry for the young team.[citation needed]

meh.

They should of made a jersey all patterened in roses. That would be cool.

that is a pretty weak nickname. Especially given the background story behind it. I was expecting more.

they look good...
i like the white one, but the nickname is pretty lame. some announcer came up with it years ago?
if we went by that same rule, it would say 'salami and cheese' on our jerseys.

I can't wait until they bring back the purple dinos. I would buy a retro Bosh jersey.

Dude, it's called history. They've won a championship. We have nothing to go retro for. Our history is what? 13 years old. Yup, let's bring back retro.

The white one kind of reminds me of a no-name jersey you'd buy at Wal-Mart or Zellers. I'm liking the red one though.

I don't buy jerseys anymore, but if the Blazers issued a jersey with this design, I'd totally buy it.

Why don't you just make one? Buy a Hawaiian shirt and cut off the sleeves and collar.

That's too much effort. If you don't like it, it's cool. But don't be an ass and knock on me because I like it.
