Blazers Blazers low balling Batum

BC should be highly interested in getting him here. Wonder what money he's looking for?

Quote:
Representatives for Nicolas Batum, met with Blazers' management in San Antonio on Friday.

A source close to the negotiations said the Blazers made a “low-ball offer” to Nicolas Batum and that sides are “very far apart" and "no progress was made."

Bouna Ndiaye, Batum's agent, said that the sides would meet Friday for their second negotiation session and would be back at it for their third session after the Blazers' 6-game road trip.

However, the same source has said things have changed and that Batum's camp will not request another meeting if the Blazers don't move up from their number by Jan. 23.

I'd give him 8-9 mil. Hes under used in POR, and he could easily be a 15+6-7 rpg starting SF with very good defence if he was utilized more.

I'd give up any piece for him, he would be an instant starter on this team.

If it's in the spirit of the deals that Stuckey (25 mil over 3 years) etc got, he's probably asking for 25 mil a year. He's three times the player that Stuckey is.

I'm pretty sure he isn't going to ask for anything in the realm of 25 mil a year. The 2012 draft is PF heavy (goodbye Bargnani), we would need a SF so giving a bigger contract to Batum is plausible.

25 mil - just for fun, it's impossible.
But he was considered their star of the future just a year ago, and he arguably took a big step forward defensively.
Gerald Wallace took some of his minutes but I don't think Batum wants to be paid as a 6th man that he is right now for the Blazers.
Rather, a potential All Star.
I'd guess it's a long term, over 10 mil a year.

he looks just as intriguing as outlaw did as a blazer, but much like outlaw, i'm sure they're waiting for that jump before they hand over the cash.

I suspect Batum's agent is looking for that, given what Afflalo got from Denver.

Afflalo has done more.... batum needs to prove himself.\

The Raps would be interested, they were in his draft year but he had that heart stuff show up on his testing.

i would give him affalo type money for batum in a hearbeat. if we can get some ind of deal involving davis. it would be awesome.

draft a pg on the upcoming season and we are set.

Starters: Draf PG / DD / Batum / Bargs / Jonas

Bench: Jose, Bayless, Kleiza, Amir, JJ and hopefully Alabi will get better.

Draft a PG? There are absolutely no PG's in the 2012 draft. This years draft is PF heavy... if we have a shot at Drummond or something, I'd have him start over Andea in a heartbeat. Package Bargnani in a deal with guys like jose/davis & land a great piece or two.

And we'd still have money to spend for more depth.

Start Drummond right away over Bargnani?

i don't think they want afflalo money, i think they want more. the agent / Batum i mean.
i would ask for more if I was his agent.
afflalo is who he is. a very good 26 year old perimeter defender with good if inconsistent offense. He'll earn that salary.
Batum will be at least Afflalo. But he's 23, he's insanely long, much longer than Afflalo, he's already a pretty good defender and there have been a ton of flashes of what he could become. He could have an impact of Luol Deng in 3 years. Or even bigger.

Maybe he won't become that. But that's the selling point.
And I think if they wait, some team will throw 10+ mil a year at them during the offseason. Celtics? Mavs? Or imagine Lakers trading Pau, Bynum, cutting Artest and rebuilding around Kobe, Dwight, Batum and pieces.
I didn't check the numbers but they should be under cap. Heck, many teams will have some cap, and there aren't enough free agents once again.
Someone would overpay and hope Blazers don't match. Or overpay and hope the Blazers match.
There's really no reason for Batum's agent not to ask a lot.

I like the Robinson guy much more next to Jonas, if we are talking 3-7 range.
Anyway, I agree. There are no point guards. There are some SFs. But if it's a big, you take the big.

yes lets trade our best player, andrea, a pf. alongside ed davis our other prospect pf and then go ahead and draft a rookie pf.

btw guys like teague, marshall and kobongo are all very interesting. also, we dont necesarly need to draft a pg, we could just keep jose and bayless.
