Cavs Big Z for David West?

Great move for Cleveland. If this ever went through, how long until Paul would want out?

Quote:
With the Hornets doing everything they can to avoid paying the luxury tax, acquiring Big Z’s $11.5 million expiring contract – and ridding themselves of West’s $9.1 million this season, $8.3 million next year and $7.5 million player option in 2011-12 – you have to think this deal makes sense for both teams.

One interesting aspect of this proposed trade that The Morning Journal talks about, is that the Hornets very well could buy out Ilgauskas’ contract and waive him, thus allowing him to return to the Cavs in 30 days. It’s clear that Ilgauskas doesn’t fit into New Orleans’ future plans, and the Cavs would love to have him back as insurance for Anderson Varejao and Shaquille O’Neal.

If that happened theyd have the title locked up and we may as well not even play the games. Honestly, West is an absolutely perfect fit in CLE. And then theyd get Z back too? They have to get rid of that BS. I remember SAS did that with Thomas and Barry a while ago, you shouldnt be able to retain a player you traded in the same year.

Yeah the 30 day rule is bullshit. It should be changed and they shouldn't be allowed to return to their original team for the remainder of the season.

different if its a newly acquired player
for example, we can't resign Amir if he's cut after a trade until July 1st

we can construct the same type of deal
give expirings to a team that whats to shed payroll and get a player with a bigger contract then they're willing to pay
we traded JO, but if he were still here we could have done the same type trade

Oh gawd. I hope that doesn't happen. They will be a sick team and they'll an all-star at the position they sorely lacked

If this deal happens, I doubt it ends up being just a West for Ilguaskus swap. New Orleans should insist that Cleveland throw in Hickson and take one of the terrible contracts of either MoPete or Posey.

Demand Hickson? Hickson is terrible. NOH should demand 2 unprotected 2011/12 1st rd picks, and if Lebron does end up leaving CLE in the offseason, theyll have GOLD JERRY, GOLD

Thriller, buddy, a major reason you demand Hickson is so that you can include the bad contract of Posey or Mopete. Consider the whole post. If Posey is included, the salary leaving New Orleans goes up over $15.5 million. You need a little something to top up Ilgauskus's salary to make it work. Hickson is a cheap, young player. If you're New Orleans, it's better to take Hickson in return, rather than some other garbage player, like Moon, who is dumped in to make it work. My suggestion of including Posey, would save the Hornets over 3$ million extra this year, and over $13 million over the next to years. They would be shedding a lot of dead weight.

Yes, picks would be nice, IF they can be had. Any GM would want picks. But the crafty GMs also look for opportunities to dump shit salaries.
