Default Beasley: I'm not a Tito Jackson

Quote:
Michael Beasley wants to be clear on this: His name is not Tito Jackson, and he would like TNT analyst top refrain from saying so. Barkley, the outspoken NBA analyst and Hall of Fame player, has referred to the Miami Heat as Michael Jackson (that would be Dwyane Wade) and a bunch of Titos, Michael's brother and a background member of the famed Jackson 5 singing group. What Barkley really means is the rest of the Heat is comprised of relative unknowns. "It's just disrespectful," Beasley said. "Not disrespectful to Tito Jackson. The way Charles worded it, it makes us feel a little disrespected."

There is way too much emphasis on individuals in the NBA. It's a team sport, but all we ever hear about is franchise players, one guy doing it all, people carrying their team, blah, blah... and the way the media works, it's only moving more into that direction. Individual fame and wealth. Me me me!!!

I really hate it.

But didn't they beat Memphis in Memphis without Wade? And they kept things with the Mavs in Dallas interesting up until the last 2 minutes.

actually, i should say that i see what you're getting at. I agree that Wade makes that team and that one really, really good player can do a lot for a basketball team. All i'm trying to point out is that it's a bad direction for the league to be heading in. All this attention is being placed on one guy above the rest of the team. The stars are being placed above the team. It doesn't appeal to me.

+1

That's a great thing about Toronto...we know CB4 is our franchise player, but we're all about the team

I think it's been here for a while. Just the sheer amount of Jordan commercials I used to see back in the day. And then to see him absolutely destory ppl and average like 35 ppg on the court as well made me realize all the media attention was worth it.

Guys like Lebron James (2007) led his team to the finals with no one on his team and scored like 30 points in a row against DET to get them there. This league is all about stars, just be thankful that we have one too .

I'm actually pretty thankful that Colangelo has set us up nicely if said star ends up wanting to go elsewhere.

this is one of the many reasons the over exposure of michael jordouche ruined the nba. bmats and his obsession of vince Carter and LBJ comment is a classic example.

i think that since a lot of us come from hockey/soccer backgrounds, we seem to understand that a team can survive without it's star since the teams success comes from everyone else doing their job and stepping above and beyond when called upon.

Lebron couldn't lead his team to the Finals last season. He arguably had a better team than the previous year, with more than just Titos, if only slightly. Still - they all just watched as he tired himself out launching threes.

I will not always think of Beasley as Tito. I prefer Tit.

I agree with Charles here. Wade is what makes the heat good and the rest of the guys are just there for show. If Wade was out this whole season I bet Miami woulda gotten the first pick and had a worse record then the Netss
