Baron Davis to be a Clipper?

LOS ANGELES (TICKER) —Baron Davis will soon return home to join the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a published report Tuesday night.

Citing Davis’ agent, Todd Ramasar, the Los Angeles Times reported that the Clippers reached a verbal agreement with the Los Angeles native and star point guard, who opted out of the final season of his deal with the Golden State Warriors on Monday.

The newspaper said the contract would be worth “in the five-year, $50-million range.”

“From a basketball standpoint it’s always been about winning for Baron,” Ramasar told the Times. “This presented a good opportunity to do that - to pair him with Chris Kaman, and Elton Brand is expected back.”

By NBA rules, the deal cannot be officially announced until July 9, when the league’s free agent moratorium ends.

Tuesday’s report also came one day after Davis had a startling change of heart, leaving $17.8 million on the table to become an unrestricted free agent.

Clippers forwards Brand and Corey Maggette also opted out just before Tuesday’s midnight deadline for declaring free agency, which would leave Los Angeles with some cap space if - as expected - only Brand returns.

But it was a surprise move for Davis, who decided to try the open market after weeks of telling teammates and those close to him that he wanted to remain in Golden State.

The third overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft, Davis opted out of the final season in a six-year, maximum-level contract he signed with the New Orleans Hornets in 2002.
Orly?

I don't think they're good enough defensively to win the title, but I'm sure Clippers fans will be overjoyed that they at least get to be in the conversation and get in the playoffs the next 5 years... They've only been there three times in the last thirty trys.

The West is gonna be tight as a vagina again next year, even with Denver probably blowing up.

If they keep Ross and have Brand/Kaman healthy theyre a top 10 defensive team. They have a shitload of talent, they just need to shore up the bench now with a solid big and maybe one more veteran shooter.

Baron/Knight, Mobley/Ross, Thornton/?, Brand/Thomas, Kaman/?. A couple solid signings and they could be a top 5 team if healthy and if Thornton keeps developing and beasting the league.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that Baron Davis has reached a verbal agreement with the Clippers on Tuesday night and will sign a new multi-year contract with the club after the league wide moratorium on signings and trades is lifted July 9.

Davis surprised the Warriors by opting out of the final season of his $17.8 million contract on Monday.

Sources told ESPN.com that Davis, 29, will receive a five-year deal worth an estimated $65 million.

"From a basketball standpoint it's always been about winning for Baron," his agent Todd Ramasar told the Los Angeles Times. "This presented a good opportunity to do that to pair him with Chris Kaman and Elton Brand is expected back."

This all but seals Livingston's fate. He's hitting the market no doubt.

Baron would love the lime light of playing in LA too. Seems like the perfect fit. ;)

Good on the Clips. If Brand re-signs, the Clippers will be a very solid team next season

Baron Davis has signed a 5 year/65 MILLION deal with the Clippers. It has been anounced on the Swirsky show.

No, but we know your feelings on the deal. You need to cool it on that shit. We know you don't like the trade, we know, but hearing you bellyache about it everyday is really tiresome.

coke and a smile, man.

I don't mind the trade. All i was saying is that what was said in the above mentioned post is being said about the Raptor deal and that it wouldn't stop someone from making a deal. Also, saying the same thing about Brand or another player while getting mad at me for pointing the same thing out about a player is a little hypocritical.
