Baron Davis amnesitied........going to the Knicks?

Quote:

The Cavaliers have amnestied Baron Davis.

Davis is currently dealing with a back issue, but is expected to sign with the Knicks if he clears amnesty waivers.

Figured this would happen. Welcome to the starting lineup Kyrie. Now we'll see if you're a bust or what..

Metallikid 12-14-2011 08:30 PM

Wait... doesn't every team have a a minimum amount they have to spend on payroll? There's no way the Cavs are anywhere near that.

Without Davis they'll have 42Mil committed to 13 players. They add a player or two and spend about 5Mil and be ready to start the season.

I actually hope that Baron surprises people and shows up in Miami

ClutchCity 12-14-2011 09:14 PM

Baron can't shoot, why would Miami want him? A lineup with Wade, LeBron, and Davis is brick city especially if Wade/LeBron have to spot up.

With the Knicks is might work because Landry is a spot up shooter, and Tyson Chandler strives under a PG that can pass. Amar'e plays great with the P&R, and Melo will get his.

Really? Disagree there.

Superjudge 12-15-2011 08:41 AM

An amnestied player's salary doesn't count against the salary cap maximum, but it still counts against the minimum salary requirements. As such, the Cavs are well over the minimum.

Baron can't shoot?

where did you get that from...
I would love to see Baron in New York, he has allot of talent, but has a Vince like mentality.. lacks motivation, I think playing in NY would motivate him to ball every night

Shifty.py 12-15-2011 02:22 PM

What, nobody will pick him off the waivers? Everyone will just watch him go to Knicks?

Which teams that can claim him seem like good candidates to you? His conditioning was questionable at best of times, but now with up to 3 months of with a bulging disc? Not really someone a rebuilding team sounds like they'd target.

Shifty.py 12-15-2011 05:12 PM

two years at minimum salary, not a big waste
honestly if we didn't have 3 PGs already, I would want him here

In one exhibition game he and Derozan had several pretty plays

Grizz 12-15-2011 05:44 PM

I also didn't consider the possibility being raised that someone will claim him to dangle his expiring as trade bait next season.

I just think, especially if he gets claimed by a team like Toronto, his desire to stay in shape is going to disappear.

jeffb 12-15-2011 06:25 PM

Knicks should have kept Billups istead of getting Bibby and now possibly Davis.

They couldnt have signed Chandler if they kept Billups.

B Davis is out 6-8 weeks I heard...

Toby 12-16-2011 04:03 AM

ESPN just said Davis has a buldging disk in his back. He'll miss this shortened season if he has to go under the knife.

Baron Davis has committed to sign with the New York Knicks, according to sources close to the situation.

The deal could be formally completed as soon as Sunday, sources said.

Davis cleared waivers Friday after he was released through the amnesty clause in the new labor agreement by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

If BD can keep in shape he will be a talented serviceable PG. He needs to keep his weight down.
