Well they both play for Spain and often are fighting for a starting spot. I remember I said that Calderon is a better player when it comes to international games and Pzabby was laughing at me.

Lots of people are noticing Rubio's glaring shortcomings. In fact, Jalen and Bill Simmons were ripping Rubio on the latest podcast, and shaking their head at Minny for not keeping Trey Burke, who they traded to Utah on draft day.

^agree, If we look at it statistically team with Calderon would win more games.
Calderon: WS/48 .133, ORTG 122.1, DRTG 104.3
Rubio: WS/48 .108, ORTG 101.31, DRTG 100.62

I thought that people HATED Jose because of his lack of D.... Rubio's one of the better defenders at the PG spot and can pass the ball just as well... What's the prob?

Based on what, his steals numbers? He gets lost on defense so often, gambles too much, and doesn't have the athleticism to recover for mistakes.

I think they're both essentially matadors.

I disagree that he's one of the better defenders at the PG spot. His on-ball D isn't good imo. He's a really good rebounder for his size. And obviously his vision/passing is elite level. The problem obviously with him is he's a REALLY bad shooter (35% FG on over 10 FGA/game) and is horrendous at finishing around the basket (shoots under 40% at the rim). Those are his 2 major flaws on offense and I haven't seen even a slight improvement in those areas since he came into the league. I'm not saying he can't improve, just making an observation that he hasn't. As much as I've disliked Rondo over the years, at least he's a very good finisher around the rim and has elite D for his position. With Rubio, I just see players sag, go under screens, and he's not able to take advantage of that type of D.

Yeah just read that, possible torn meniscus....too bad for the Suns - him and Dragic were looking pretty good though Gerald Green hasn't done too bad himself. Wonder what that means for Markief, he plays so much better when EB is on the court.

Even though Rubio has some potential, I would still take Calderon over him. In the T-Wolves case I agree with Jalen and Bill as much as I hate those guys, that Minny should have keep Burke instead of trading him to Utah.

I totally agree...a lot of the same type too, meniscus tears....I can't recall a time period where there were so many knee tears in general.

I don't see the competitive edge in Rubio. That makes a big difference. He is easily more naturally gifted than Jose. All he needs to do is put in the work and care enough about winning. Jose had no shot when he came into the league. There's no really good reason for Rubio to not improve that enough to boost his overall game a whole bunch.

Calderon has looked okay for Dallas, especially when he is a willing shooter. Since it's been brought up, I'd actually be interested to see what he could do in Minny, slowing their offense down a bit, keeping the bigs getting great looks, and taking advantage of all the open 3s from the doubles their bigs get. Minny is really good at getting to the line and putting other teams in foul trouble, yet despite having Martin and Love, they are still below average in terms of outside shooting efficiency. Rubio is part of the problem.

They still have a good offense; it just might be a bit better with Calderon, which might equal an extra couple of wins. That's why I didn't think giving bjjs a thumbs down was reall warranted. Given what both guards are doing this year, it's not a crazy statement.

Personally, I'm still glad we got Lowry over either of them, though. I don't regret Calderon going or anything like that (especially at that price tag in a few years), but I can respect that Caldy is shooting lights out this year, and can probably run a Minny offense really efficiently, especially when he has talented bigs to dump it too.

On a somewhat related note, how bad does Khan's 2009 draft look now?

Flynn, Rubio, and he traded away Ty Lawson on draft day!

T-Wolves fans are lucky McChale drafted Love and Pek together the year before.
