now cheer for the Wiz to beat the Heat, which might happen after the Heat lost to Atlanta. That way, the Pacers might still get first. Yeah, we still gotta face Brooklyn in the first round, but at least we'd be in position to face the Pacers next, if we survived a long, hard fight with the Nets

Posted this in another thread...probably belongs here instead....

EDIT - Indy owns tiebreak with Miami.

The Miami game against Washington is big. It could settle things. If Miami loses, Indiana holds the tiebreaker because of the better conference record. Then all the Pacers have to do is beat Orlando. I think Miami will decide what to do in their last game (against Philly) on the basis of what happens against Washington and in the Pacers/OKC game.

You know, it would be interesting to know who Miami prefers to play in the 2nd round, if their coaching/management staff even think about it at all.

I mean, even though Chicago looks amazing right now, Brooklyn does appear to give the Heat fits. And I suspect Miami would assume Brooklyn would beat us in the first round, so finishing first means they get the Nets.

Similar to my post above about the tiebreaker for Miami and Indiana, it is important for us to win the next game against the Knicks just in case Chicago loses. It gives us the tiebreaker. We split the season series 2-2 with the Bulls, but if we beat the Knicks we finish with a better division record (12-4; chicago 11-5). If we lose to the Knicks, we have the same division record, and then it goes to the next tiebreaker - conference record. The Bulls win that one.
We have the tie breaker against the bulls just for having a division title. For the past few weeks, as long as we stayed ahead of Brooklyn we had the tie breaker against the Bulls.

Also; division record is only used if teams are in the same division, so it's irrelevant is far as Indiana/Miami are concerned.

pre-season poll...OkC didn't look good last year. Still surprising somebody like the Warriors would get more votes.

Disappointed that the Suns couldn't beat Dallas last night, as I wanted to see them clinch a playoff spot. Can't wait for them to play the Grizzles tomorrow, but here's hoping that the Griz lose to the Lakers today (we know that won't happen).

Hey we are more likely to win the title at this point than at least one team that got a vote in the pre-season voting

Actually I would say that who ever made the poll was pretty good. I think he had 8/10 correct in top-5 of each division. Only we are there instead of Knicks and Portland is missing.

Funny fact

Andrea Bargnani: 470 Offensive rebounds for his career (475 GP)

Andre Drummond: 426 Offensive rebounds to date (136 GP)

my bad. After reading your post I googled and found a more detalied summary page from NBA.com. It did seem kinda odd to me that they use division record before conference record, even if the teams were not in the same division.

Anyway, that means that Indiana holds the tiebreaker over Miami, since both teams won their division, split their season series, and the Pacers have the best conference record.

Miami better try against the Wiz, if they want first place. Because if the Heat lose, all Indy has to do is beat Orlando.

Pacers are in the driver's seat for 1 seed. Looks like we could still get them in the 2nd round.....if we can get past Brooklyn.

i hate watching Jennings play.... i would absolutely despise having him as my starting PG. the guy is such a chucker.
no wonder Detroit has been such a disappointment this season. you put him and Josh Smith in your lineup, you are asking to lose. even having one of the best PF/C combo's in the league (Monroe/Drummond), these guys cant seem to win.
Jennings and Smith make any team worse..... i dont care what their stats say.
