They can only review it if they called it a goaltend originally, which they should have done. It's like what they do with flagrant fouls, they blow the whistle, discuss it, and then call it a flagrant in order to review it. I dont see why they couldnt have done the same thing in this scenario.

It's dumb that they can't review it if it isn't called. By calling it they need conclusive evidence to reverse it. Not calling it would require the same, but it should still be reviewable, otherwise you could get the lazy call in order to rely on video evidence that doesn't end up being there. The video should be used as a backup in either case, not just a crutch. The emphasis should be on getting the initial call right.

It makes perfect sense that refs can't review a play that isn't called. A call creates a stoppage. If there's no stoppage, how can you review a play? The refs can't just blow their whistle and stop the play after a controversial no call to check the tape.

Lets just say there's a blatant goal tending that is not called, and that 'block' leads to a fast break score... You can't reverse that play and take away the points that were scored because you missed a call 10 seconds earlier. The only way a play can or should be reviewed is if a call is made in the first place.

Yeah it should be a pretty simple system. Have the 4th ref look at all potentially reviewable plays before timeouts or stoppages in play to where the refs calling the game can just walk to the scorers table, consult the ref at the table who tells them what the call should be, and they call it.

And as you say, review any potential close play without having to make a call in order to review it. That's such backward thinking.

But the length of time that these reviews take is so awful. It needs to be fixed right after the season ends, and I'm sure it will with it already been talked about.

Blake will be a little banged up heading into the playoffs. First it was his back now it's his ankle.

Friday is definitely a HUGE day in the NBA. Everyone plays except the Spurs and Clippers.

But they already review calls that create stoppages, the perfect example being the Heat vs. Spurs in the finals. Everybody should remember Popovich irate at the officials for stopping the play with seconds to play to make sure Allen's feet were behind the three point line. It gave the Heat a chance to set-up their defense. So that already happens, regardless of whether the ball is rebounded, or inbounded.

Personally - stop the review process altogether. I don't like it. I think they should leave it to three point / two point decisions and that is it. You could take the officials right out of the equation. No officials on the floor, just 10 officials in a studio officiating the game through mobile cameras. Hire two judo-masters to get in the middle of any physical disputes.

I think there are too many reviews as well. It is a crutch. Allow the human element and live with it. At the same time i can see where technology will come into play where all line calls and goaltending calls are made automatically by machines reading some sort of sensors. I just hope they work better than the ones hooked up to my garage door.

Blake may actually be the best player on that team now. His game has gone to another level this season.

Caron Butler stinks. Thunder were better off giving those minutes to Jeremy Lamb.
