Not this year. Their veteran leadership and chemistry is too good right now.

Memphis is tearing it up. If they continue to share the wealth on offence this well, theyre a definite title contender. But it all falls on the shoulders of Gay and not trying to do too much. Their defence is definitely good enough, but their offence needs to stay this way with Conley/Gay/Randolph/Gasol all in the 13-20 PPG range every game. Their bench knows their roles and knocks down open shots, and theyre only going to get better once Arthur returns.

The only teams that can beat them right now are LAC/LAL.

Knicks and Grizz both are contenders;

Kincks' achilles heel is having a few to many guys who melt down like toddlers when the game gets emotional. They need to learn to keep their cool for 48 minutes.

Theyve been cool under pressure the entire year, led by Kidd. Their problem, like MIA, is their lack of size vs good frontcourts who will tear them to shreds. It sucks MIA/NYK arent in the West or theyd get a whooping like last night more often. Watching Battier and Melo try and guard top tier PFs, or in Melos case yesterday, C's would catch up to them and theyd get beat in the West and wouldnt have a chance at making it to the finals. But luckily for them theyre in the East which doesnt have too many really good frontcourts, or overall good teams.

They're contenders for 2nd round exits, that's about it.

They'll need Kidd to be more vocal when Sheed, Melo and JR Smith are throwing tantrums at the officials or they'll find good efforts turn to 20 point deficits like last night.

1 month ago, according to you the Knicks were contenders for the 8th spot and that was about it - so what do you know?

You can name three teams in the East sure winners over the Knicks? The Pacers? Celtics? Really?

I don't remember much of what was said during the end of September and first-half of October because I was away from the site. BUT, I do remember a fairly heated conversation about the Knicks from the summer.

At that point, almost all the pieces on the Knicks current roster were in place. They might have been missing Sheed. Anyway, Jeff was saying they could finish 5th if they developed chemistry, but would likely be 6th, possibly lower. He predicted 6th with potential to move up or down. Not total hating.

Kirby was the one shiting on the knicks, at least during the summer.

Utah went with a meaty starting front court

C - Al Jefferson
PF - Derrick Favours
SF - Paul Millsap
SG - Gordon Hayward
PG - Mo Williams

If you wouldn't take the Celts over the Knicks in a 7 game series then I want some of what you're smoking cuz it must be some good shit.

For the sake of clarity, you should note that bj said "sure winners". He could still think the Celtics are the probable winner without thinking it is a "sure" thing.

Personally, I'd give the Celts the advantage, but I wouldn't say sure thing at this point. Waaay too early in the season, and I've only seen the Knicks play twice. But they looked really good both times, beating quality opponents in Miami and the Spurs.
