JO was hitting post up fadeaways in that game lol.

12 Points, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 assists.

Even though the Lakers won that game. Kobe played like garbage.

4 points, 9 assists (8 turnovers)

Sucks to be Parsons, dude's contract is very long and not even a million per year while he plays like an 8 million a season guy

that's why they have a rookie scale. Unfortunately, our guys tend to suck for that long time and then need to be re-upped before they get good. Good on Houston for going a 'different' route on scouting young talent!

i don't think he's on a rookie scale deal. he was a 2nd round pick, with only one season guaranteed, and then i believe he was signed with open cap space to a 3 (or 4??) year deal.

wow... wild. Good thing we got Acy for cheap next year too then!

It's odd, given this is his second season and he had a decent first season.

Re: Parsons

It's my understanding that the Rockets signed him to a rookie scale contract (2nd rounder rate) for 4 years, but not fully guaranteed. The Rockets could get out of the final 2 years if they waived him by a certain date. According to basketball-reference.com, he only signed one contract in December 2011 after the new CBA.

He's so cheap because he was a 2nd rounder. Some 2nd rounders only get one year deals. Seems to me Houston probably offered him more because he was a 4 year college player they believed would be at least a good role player worth giving more than the typical 1 or 2 year deal 2nd rounders get.

And, on Chandler's end, you have no guarantees about how things will go in terms of playing time etc..when you come into the league as a 2nd rounder, so you probably take any money they might throw at you.

that's all assuming I'm right about him only signing one contract.

thanks bill. he played overseas during the lockout, so i assumed it was a new contract when he got back. and now i see that sham lists the last 2 years as not guaranteed.

That makes better sense.... Bill, you'e a stud researcher here at RF, like an at home Colangelo that just knows what he's talking about.

Was Parsons a kid that had much hype in his draft year or was he just a second round shot in the dark?

He was a senior. Seniors make great second round picks that can play certain roles right away. It's something we'll likely see more of.

Does Colangelo know what he is talking about? hmm...

Um, all I do is click a button. I have several useful websites in a favorites folder. And I may not be right. I'm trusting Basketball-Reference.com (which is probably a safe bet).

I don't remember any hype. As LX and I said, he played 4 years of college. He had good fundamentals (SJ would appreciate that), and was SEC player of the year. The weird thing is, I don't watch a lot of college ball, but he was one of the most memorable players from that draft class because Florida won a few games in the tourny that year, so I saw him on TV more than other college players.
