Better to coach a team with low expectations.

It didn't fall into his lap, they believed in him and were grooming him to take over.

And again, their offensive system was still bad back then.

The main thing is, even though theyre 14-14, are they going to improve with Avery as their head coach? Are they going to be playing at a top 4 seed level, which is expected of them? I dont think so. They made the right move doing this earlier rather than later when the team may not be fixable. But they need to bring in a good coach immediately to make this work, they cant have Carleismo coaching this team for more than 2 weeks.

Its a very simple formula for them to start playing better. Pick and roll with DWill/Brook and JJ/Brook more often, and stop playing DWill off of the ball so much. Those three should be putting up 18+ every game together, and they need a coach to utilize their strengths and up their usage rates in spots on the floor where theyre comfortable and going to be producing. And despite his defensive deficiencies, Brooks needs to be playing more as they need his scoring off of the bench. If they can get him in to a good rhythm playing 20-25 minutes and scoring well off the bench, I think the defence will come too with more experience as well.
Yah & I'm not sure why he has been benching Hump? Easily the nets best rebounder/hustle player.

Sorry, but while Hump is a much better overall player, Reggie is definitely their best rebounder, especially beside Lopez.

Their offense all season has been horrible with so little rhythm. Offensive plays include:

1) Iso for Williams
2) Iso for Johnson
3) Post-up by Lopez

We'll see if they bring in someone else for the rest of the season or wait until the off-season.

Do you think they'd fork over Phil-Jackson-level money?

I could care less what Reggie is good at now that he does't play for the Raps...

& no he isn't a better rebounder at this point in his career than Hump is.

The Nets are just falling back to earth. They were never as good as people thought and Deron is deifnately not as good as he thinks he is.

I think the long and short of it is they are not meeting expectations and have to run along side a red hot knicks team that is sucking all the air out of the NY media. They have a very formidable starting line up that should be topping the Atlantic or at least making a run at a mid level play off spot. The last thing they want is to be in a dog fight to play miami or god forbid the knicks in the first round.

Kris Humphries 23 minutes per game/7.4 rebounds
(11.5 per 36 minutes)

Reggie Evans 20 minutes per game/8 rebounds
(14.1 per 36 minutes)

Just saying, bruh.

Yes.

Link: Nets want Phil Jackson

Quote:
Undaunted by Phil Jackson's reported reluctance to coach their team, Brooklyn Nets officials have established Jackson as their top target in the wake of Avery Johnson's dismissal, according to NBA coaching sources.

Sources told ESPN.com on Thursday the Nets have Jackson atop their list of potential replacements for Johnson and will make a hard push for the 67-year-old, who appeared close to returning for a third stint with the Los Angeles Lakers in November before L.A. unexpectedly gave the job to Mike D'Antoni.

Jackson's longtime representative, Todd Musburger, told TNT's David Aldridge on Thursday that his client has "no interest in the Nets' job at this time." But a source told ESPN that Jackson would indeed entertain an approach from Brooklyn and that his flirtation with the Lakers after Mike Brown's dismissal five games into the season got him "thinking about coaching again."

Another source insisted Thursday night that the Lakers' presumed reluctance to give Jackson what he wanted, in terms of salary and say in basketball matters, would not be an issue with the Nets, thanks largely to the deep pockets and affinity for stars of billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov.

Luring the 11-time champion out of retirement would be a coup on a number of fronts for the Nets. Jackson would not only rank as an undeniably elite coach imported to reignite Deron Williams' career, but also would give Prokhorov the privilege of ramping up the Nets' rivalry with the storied New York Knicks by hiring a Knicks legend. Jackson was a top reserve on the Knicks' championship team as a player in 1973 and long has described famed Knicks coach Red Holzman as his mentor.

It's also worth noting that Williams, in his recent critique of Johnson's offense, described himself as "a system player." Jackson, with his triangle offense, is arguably the NBA's foremost system coach, provided he can be talked into one more job after the disappointment of losing out to D'Antoni after thinking he'd be getting the Lakers' job for a third time.

Deron has been ass this year and the complaining would continue with Phil because the triangle offence is not a PG dominant system. It would be funny if they got Jerry Sloan

I bet you Deron would love it if they got Sloan... he's bothered by the notion, which is the truth, that he forced a legend of the game to walk away from the game. Sloan would help restore Deron's shine and I think it'd go a long way to reestablishing his image going forward. I think Sloan should be their ideal candidate.... though I can't see why he'd want to go there.
