Default Atlanta Sports Fans F***ing Suck

First not supporting a great Braves baseball team in the early decade and late 90s and now this.

If Toronto had this young, talented, athletic, growing, hard working basketball team for Joe Johnsons entire tenure with Atlanta wed sell out every single game and itd be as hard to get Raps tix as it was with Leafs tix a few years ago.

Their team is what, 9-2 now, theyve added a few great pieces to their bench, and their core is fully meshing and showing what everyone thought theyd be a few years ago once they got some experience.

Theyre firing on all cylinders, rebounding the hell out of the ball, playing fast and uptempo, and they lead the league in points in the paint and are up there in 3 pt FGs. They just beat Boston convincingly in Boston.

And you still see half the stadium not filled against a top 4 West team when your team is 8-2.

I hope they lose their team to a more deserving city. What a piece of shit sports town Atlanta is.

The population of Atlanta is too busy watching 'House of Pain' on Peachtree, and other daft productions of Tyler Perry. And that's a real shame because the Hawks are such a unique confluence of talent and toughness.

Atlanta has always been known as one of the worst sports cities. Jack Armstrong says it all the time, and i've heard that from quite a few others.

What's wrong with House of Pain? And Tyler Perry? I enjoy watching it and a lot of movies by Tyler Perry.

In all fairness, Atlanta fans got jobbed by the incompetent owners of the Hawks for a number of years.

Well, the same could be said about Los Angeles a few years back when the Ducks won the cup. Hell, only a fraction of the city was aware that the NHL season was still going on when the Ducks advanced to the Cup Finals. But here, if a Leaf player gets a sore thumb in training camp it's headline news. LA should stick to basketball and baseball.

This is just my opinion...and the collective majority; leading to most of Tyler Perry's works accumulating ratings lower than 2 on IMDB -not that that really matters to someone's personal taste. I just thinks it's a reasonable gauge regarding how base most of his stuff is. The fact that House of Pain uses an obviously fake laugh track constitutes how lame it really is. The recycled storylines, poor acting, sterotypical writing have also led me to this assessment. It is quite possibly, the worst sitcom I have ever seen. I'm not trying to deride your tastes of anything; just answering what I think is wrong with House of Pain.

What show doesn't use a laugh track nowadays? And poor acting...there are plenty of shows who's acting is more horrid then House of Pain. I tend to find shows with the idiot more entertaining then serious ones (Homer, Madea, Peter vs Dr. House and all those horrible t.v shows on global and mtv). But everyones entilted to their own opinion.

Atlanta isn't a very well-to-do city in the first place, I'm sure that's a contributing factor. The corporate influence there is minimal as well. I don't think Atlantians are necessarily any different from your typical North American sports fan, as far as I've heard their ticket buying capacity just isn't up to par with the rest of North America.

Atlanta is a pretty spread out city
all the people that can afford to go to games live in suburbs 30+ minutes away and people are more concentrated with college sports (Georgia Tech and Georgia) and NASCAR

I think their TV ratings are strong, plus TNT's HQ is in Atlanta

funny thing is you bring this up when they have the biggest crowd I've seen in a while, discounting the playoffs

NBA local TV ratings: Cavs boost NBA?s local TV ratings

I was wondering.

Did you know that Atlanta was one of the hardest hit cities economically in the last decade in the US, with an already existing super high level of poverty. Are you seriously full on hating people for no thaving the money to go to a basketball game?

Honestly man..... thats not right.

They love their baseball and football. Just disinterested in basketball. Like mentioned earlier they have been screwed by ownership in the past and they are not in a "basketball" market.

And just a tidbit, it's estimated 40% of African Americans are below the poverty line. African Americans make up 55.8% of the total population. do the math. All in all about 22% of the population is below the poverty line...

Actually, if you do research and look at the gate numbers Atlanta ranks 14th in total attendance.

I don't think you're being fair at all. Looking back at the past decade they've done poor in attendence but their teams were horrible in most of those years. Here is the last ten years:

Year: Gate Rank, Win %
'09-'10: 14th, .818
'08-'09: 20th, .573
'07-'08: 20th, .451
'06-'07: 26th, .366
'05-'06: 29th, .317
'04-'05: 29th, .159
'03-'04: 29th, .341
'02-'03: 28th, .427
'01-'02: -, .402
'00-'99: -, .305

NBA Attendance
NBA Standings

What this shows is very similar to any franchise that struggles to get wins. What we see here is the Hawks gate numbers are tied very strongly to their win %. Like any business, if you don't offer a quality product your customer base is low and you develope a bad reputation. Even when you improve your product it takes time to rebuild a strong customer base aka. a strong following.

Toronto has played 4 home games with an average of 18,131 fans
Atlanta, 5 games, 16,885 average

another thing
if you watch a Hawks game no one sits in the upper deck and the lower one is 60-70% full. Season tix are probably so cheap they end up going to 10 games a year. They go by tickets sold not how many people show up

Turner Field does well with attendance, mid range i suppose. It's weird because Atlanta is such an enormous city, and noone seems to care about sports!

To me, that just shifts the blame to the owners. Why are ticket prices so expensive people can't afford them?

I know this is true with the leafs but they sell out the stadium still.
