Around the NBA daily

Instead of making this thread everyday like I did before, I think it would be better off kept as one thread about the games going on every night in the league. If it becomes one of the better discussion threads like it was last year I'll keep this thread going, if not then whatever. This year there seems to be a flurry of games every night that go down to the wire and have been well worth watching, so hopefully I'm not the only one with LP that watches. Anyways, tonight's games are:

BOS@PHI
CLE@WAS
CHI@CHA
NYK@NYJ
DET@NOH
MEM@HOU
DAL@SAS
LAL@DEN
MIL@GSW
LAC@SEA

Predictions in bold. A bunch of good games on the slate tonight.

NYK vs NYJ is always interesting and tight to the end, but NJ has pulled away in the close games the last 2 seasons.

DET@NOK should be a nice matchup, can Paul break down the Pistons very good defence and get a win at home(which is basically like the road for them since they have no fans, WTG putting them back in NO Stern).

DAL@SA promises to be a great matchup even without Duncan because SA is so used to playing without him in stretches. Slowing down Tony P will be the key to victory.

LAL@DEN has the chance to be good as long as the Lakers dont get smoked like last game vs DEN. The best part of the game will be seeing Anthony Carter on Kobe again, I dont think that's going to turn out as well this time. I think this will be Kobes first 50 of the year.

And lastly, any team at GSW is good for the night cap. Maybe the underachieving Bucks' offence will finally be awoken this season playing a team that plays so fast. I still find it hard to believe how a team with so many good players can struggle this much on offence and overall.

Nice job thriller .... have they said how long Duncan is out for or is he still day-to-day at this point?

Ball Don't Lie 12-05-2007 02:20 PM

I'm pretty sure he's only out 2 weeks max, maybe 3. He'll definately be back before January as long as they aren't overly cautious with the injury.

Dr. J. Naismith 12-05-2007 02:23 PM

Hmmm .... maybe I should pick up Bonner in one of my fantasy pools for the next couple weeks. ;)

INSIDER 12-05-2007 02:26 PM

sweet, thrills is bringin this back.. i always enjoyed these when you did it on EBS.
i pray that SAS beat the Mavs sans duncan... that would give those guys fits!
also, am i the only bulls hater?
i am loving their shitty start this season and all the panicking they're doing... its hilarious how they were talking like they would own the east this season...
i want CHA to kill them...

boston should pull out another 20+ point win tonight also.

Ball Don't Lie 12-05-2007 02:41 PM

It's funny how many over the backs Bonner has gotten away with when watching the Spurs this year compared to his time with the Raps, all their bigs get away with that stuff that's why they get so many 2nd chance opportunities, it's like they can get away with anything because they're the spurs and have a scary looking coach. Honestly, if you watch for it, you'll see how apparent it really is.

I am also enjoying how much the Bulls suck, but I think once they trade for JO or Gasol they should turn it around and become decent again. It's nice how teams are still not letting their big 3 take their pullup shots because they always play 3 on 5 without Nocioni on the floor, thus all the struggles. They started to speed up the game last game vs the Mavs and got some decent looks, but they just dont have enough offence to win, especially THIS year where the East and the league as a whole is much much better than last year.

INSIDER 12-06-2007 12:04 AM

let me be the first to point out how BAD cleveland is sans lebron james.
wow.
they suck, never have i seen a team so dependant on one player.
yikes!

Ball Don't Lie 12-06-2007 01:14 AM

From the games I watched tonight:

BOS@PHI-The lineup with the big 3+House and Posey is completely unstoppable. Pierce had 11 assists and their offence looked to be somewhat back on track, and their 'crappy' bench had over 30 points.

NYK@NYJ- Crawford pwned Carter in the 4th with a couple dagger 3's right in his grill. Very fun 4th to watch, especially when Carter goes like 1/8 and Crawford lights him up. Knicks play better team ball without Curry in there, and Zach being the exclusive 'man'

DAL@SAS- What a game and finish, lived up to the hype even without T-robot. Imagine if we had Ginobili on our team? Wow, even though hes the most disgusting players in the league, the guy is unbelieveable. You lay off him because of his driving ability, he'll hit the pullup with ease, you get up on him he either draws the foul or gets the easy layup. Hes like the argentinian Lebron with less athleticism. Too bad Dirk choked on the final open 3, I love watching the Spurs lose.

LAL@DEN- Another fantastic game and finish. Iverson owned the first 3 quarters with 47, then the Lakers sagged 2 secondary defenders on him in the 4th and they werent setting up for threes for some reason, Denvers spacing was god awful and there were 3 Nuggets in the lane everytime Iverson drove, it made no sense. Kobe had 6 straight when it was tied in the last 2 minutes to ice em. Carmelo is still an overrated ballhog.

Great night again around the league for people with league pass.

Co-fucking signed. Why there is so much love for Carmelo I'll never know. He's a poor defender and he's never really improved his offensive game. Without Iverson, Denver isn't even NEAR the Lakers last night.

But the game itself was fun to watch. I laughed at the ESPN guys saying A.I. is over the hill. Just because he's willing to play a team game he's somehow over the hill. He absolutely destroyed the Lakers for the first 3 quarters.

THURS DEC 6TH Games:

MIN@ATL
DEN@DAL
MIA@POR

Pretty pathetic night tonight in the NBA, no game really worth watching since it's almost inevitable Denver is gonna get blown out tonight, and the late game is very meh. At least TNT is covering it so Barkley trashing DEN at the half when they're down 20 will be fun to watch.

Yeah, Thursday's are always a lame night for NBA games because rarely are there that many ever played on this day for some reason. But Nuggs vs. Mavs should be an entertaining affair and I believe its on Raps TV tonight. :D

Nope. It's on the SCORE. RapsTV always gets the late game, which will be MIA-POR. And The Office is a repeat.

Tommy2Tymes 12-06-2007 03:36 PM

nuggs mavs is on the score tonite at 8 while the heat blazers game is on rapstv at 1030.

just an fyi heads up

INSIDER 12-06-2007 04:28 PM

thanks tommy.
i'll probably watch the mavs/nugz...

but i'll flip to see the heat too.
just to keep my eye on wade, who is playing terrible this season.

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 12-06-2007 06:00 PM

Raps TV is the best channel in the winter months. There are a lot of good games on. I miss the west coast sportsnet coverage though..used to get a lot more phoenix, la etc games.

Ball Don't Lie 12-07-2007 12:02 AM

Man, it's been vintage AI in the last 2 games. The guy is unbelieveable. They just tore apart the Mavs, scoring on seemingly every possession because of AI's penetration.

Nominated for this week's 'Brokeback Mountain Post of the Week' :)

Fridays games:

NYK@PHI
PHX@WAS
IND@ORL
CHI@DET- ESPN
HOU@NJN
MEM@NOH
UTA@SAS- ESPN
LAC@SAC
MIA@GSW- SNET pacific
MIL@SEA

Not much doin on the slate tonight really. Lots of games but not too many games that you would go out of your way to watch.

PHX/WAS should be very high scoring, one of Jamison or Butler could go for 40+, but PHX should win in the end.

HOU/NJ could be good if Kidd plays(which he should, his 'migraine' should be gone by now, heh).

UTA/SA is a rematch of last years WCF, will Utah be the first team to beat SA at home this season? Good matchup if you like watching pure bball with all the passing and cutting and such even though many view both teams as boring(I'm not one of them, specially with Utah)

And lastly, MIA/GSW just to see if Shaq can make it back down the court to the defensive end more than once a quarter vs GSW. If you hate MIA this should be the game for you, everything goes against MIA in this game. 1. Back to back, 2. GSW is the quickest team in the NBA vs one of the slowest teams in the NBA, and 3. and probably most importantly, if MIA somehow keeps GSW in the halfcourt some possessions, theyre gonna involve Shaq and Mourning in EVERY pick and roll, and like last night, the 3 point shooters will have an easy night shooting wide open shots from Baron and Monta's ability to split the pick and roll, which should be easy vs the MIA bigs, just like Portland did last night. Expect a 20+ point blowout and something big coming out of it from MIA's side the next day/game.

INSIDER 12-07-2007 07:47 PM

great lineup tonight...
utah and sas... great game of 2 of the best coaches in the land.

Ball Don't Lie 12-10-2007 02:57 PM

Tonights games:

HOU@PHI
ATL@ORL
DAL@NYK
MIA@PHX
MIL@SAC

Typical Monday in the NBA, not many games on the slate. 3 games could potentially be good:

ATL@ORL- ATL has a ton of athletes and is one of the few teams that can matchup on the perimeter with both Turk and Lewis, they may even be quick enough to double Dwight and get back to shooters quickly. This game definately has a lot of potential as long as last years ATL doesnt show up.

DAL@NYK- It could be an absolutely hilarious 40 point blowout, or the Knicks, who have played pretty well without Marbury in stretches(he isnt playing tonight due to coming back too soon from the loss of his dad) could pull one out of the hat especially vs a team like the Mavs since the Mavs have been laying a lot of eggs this year and put the peddle to the meddle bigtime last game vs Utah, they could be tired. Expect the unexpected.

And lastly, MIA@PHX- If MIA decides to play smart for the 2nd time this year and just pound PHX to hell downlow they have a real shot at winning, but knowing them they'll just play stupid and jack up horrible shots.
