Default Arenas to Orlando ?

Quote:
Orlando and Washington are engaged in serious discussions for a trade that would send Gilbert Arenas(notes) to the Magic, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Arenas has privately told people for days that he believes a deal will soon send him to Orlando, where he’ll be reunited with Magic general manager Otis Smith, a friend and mentor from Arenas’ days with the Golden State Warriors. Sources said Orlando has escalated its pursuit of a deal in recent days. After losing five of their past six games, the Magic have shown more urgency to find a perimeter scorer who can help them stay a viable contender in the Eastern Conference.

Still unclear was whether Orlando would send the expiring contract of Vince Carter(notes) as part of the package or build a trade around longer-term contracts, including that of backup center Marcin Gortat(notes), sources said. The Wizards also have been angling to get a first-round pick in return, sources said.

I'm not sure Arenas is the answer. They already have Nelson at point, why do they need to bring in Gilbert?

So would Jameer play off the bench or would they use him as trade bait to find a new shooting guard?

And if Arenas is traded, I hope he wears #0 again. Agent Zero must live on!!!

from the same article:

Orlando has had discussions on several fronts, sources said. Phoenix has been making calls on forward Hedo Turkoglu and had a conversation with Orlando about the former Magic forward. Turkoglu is in the second season of a five-year, $53 million contract. The Toronto Raptors traded him to the Suns over the summer, but Phoenix is already looking for ways to get off the remaining four years, and $44 million on his deal, sources said.

Lol.... I don't know WTF PHX was thinking when they took his contract from us.... but I'm sure glad they did.

ORL has to do something.... they're getting left behind now by BOS, MIA and CHI. Hell if NYK can add Melo that's ANOTHER team that's probably better than them.

Holding out for Nash would be better (if they can get him)... but Arenas is the next logical choice.

Orlando desperately needs a guy like Manu.
they will never win in the playoffs because they have no closer, no guy who can finish off the game.

VC is old, Lewis is a shell of his former self, and D12 is a liability at the end of games because he cant hit a free throw to save his life.
SO when the game is on the line, they have no one who can ice it or make the big play.

i actually like their thinking here... arenas could maybe be picked up for cheap. he's no Manu, but he can be a game changer at the end of big games.

The rumor that will never die has regained new life, as Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Wizards are engaged in serious discussions with the Orlando Magic to acquire Gilbert Arenas. According to the report, discussions have intensified in recent days, but the parameters of the deal are unclear. But a league source said late Friday night, "It's very close. A really strong possibility."

Is this it?
Arenas has long been rumored to be headed to Orlando, where he would be reunited with friend and mentor Otis Smith. The Wizards spoke with the Magic last summer about making a deal for Vince Carter but while those conversations stalled, they never ended.

After the Wizards lost to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, Arenas privately told people that a deal could possibly be in the works with either Orlando or Charlotte. Word started to spread throughout Verizon Center that evening.

"The Magic realizes they have to make a move. They have to do something," the source said. "It seems like it's about the right time."

Orlando has lost five of its past six games and slipped to second in the Southeast Division behind the red-hot Miami Heat, which has won 10 in a row and will face the Wizards at Verizon Center on Saturday.

Back after serving a 50-game suspension for bringing guns in the locker room around this time last year, Arenas is averaging 17.3 points and 5.6 assists for the Wizards (6-18). He has three years and $62.4 million remaining on his contract after this season. The salaries of Arenas and Carter, who has an expiring deal worth $17.3 million, match up but the source said that the Magic would look to move one or two of their bigger contracts in a trade.

The Yahoo! report mentioned that Magic center Marcin Gortat could be involved. Rashard Lewis is the highest-paid player on Orlando and has two years and $43 million left on his deal after this season. He has also been struggling this season, but any deal for the Wizards would mostly be about parting ways with Arenas, who has been forced to adapt to a different role with the arrival of No. 1 overall pick John Wall.

Wizards owner Ted Leonsis denied an Internet report earlier this month that the team was engaged in trade talks with Orlando. Leonsis also said last month that "Gilbert is not going anywhere."

+1

This is what they should be considering as their number 1 option at this point and working hard to make it happen the closer it gets to the deadline...

What would PHX want?

What if they want to blow it up and are willing to give Nash but only if they take on TURK? Multiple team trade?

Wow that would be a crazy trade.. I think if its true PHX is shopping turk to get outta that, blowing it up and rebuilding (which they need to do IMO) this is the only way to get rid of turk with Nash..

If Orlando trade for Arenas they need to move Nelson IMO. Arenas is much better with the ball in his hands. IMHO Orlando is a 2 round and out team with Vince/Lewis (softies). If they can move them both and get the right pieces they can compete with Boston/Miami

The Magic and Wizards are discussing a potential Gilbert Arenas trade and reports indicate the Orlando may send both Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis to Washington in a deal.

A source advised that including Carter and Lewis in the trade is "being discussed."

If the Magic include Lewis, the NBA's second-highest paid player, it would be a clear indication that Orlando is looking to cut salary.

Lewis and Carter combine to earn more than $37 million this season, so the Wizards would have to include more than just Arenas and his $17.7 million contract in a trade.

CONFIRMED!

Quote:
The Orlando Magic have acquired three-time NBA All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Rashard Lewis, President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Otis Smith announced today. “Gilbert (Arenas) is a proven All-Star in this league and we’re excited to add him to our team,” said Smith. “He is one of the top scoring guards in the game, he can create scoring chances for his teammates and he is as tough as they come. Rashard (Lewis) was important in helping our franchise get to the next level, and we wish him and his family all the best in the future.”
