Wizards Arenas: "I've seen worse in our locker room"

Caught this from ESPN. It's Gil speaking about his time in Washington.

Quote:
Q: A lot of time has passed since the fallout of the incident, since you were sentenced to serve time in a halfway house, since your release and return to the public eye. How often do you still reflect on the darkest moments of that ordeal?

A: I reflect back on it and, put it like this: I've seen worse in our locker room.

Q: Worse than guns being drawn by teammates in a locker room?

A: A lot worse than that.

Q: A lot worse, like what?

A: I can't really go there. It was just, you know, it's like -- it was funny then, and it's funny now. [Former Wizards center] Brendan Haywood had said something after [late Wizards owner] Abe Pollin died. He said, 'There goes your protection.' It was funny. And now, it's funny to think about it. He was, 'There goes your protection,' and, 'He can't protect you no more.' And that's how it felt, going through the whole thing. I don't know.

Daily Dime - ESPN

Is that supposed to mean that Abe Polin was letting the inmates run the asylum?

Or maybe he's just telling it like it is.

How many you play on a real team?

What level....

Grown up men do and say some fucked up stuff in the confines of those doors. You can guarantee there were conversations about guns, and gangster friends and hookers and drugs.

A guy like Zero is his own worse enemy because he doesn't have filters. He lets you see and hear what really happens. You think he's trying to make himself look good? No way man. Not even close.

You may not like the guy, maybe you don't like his arrogance on the floor... who knows. As a man, he isn't a bad guy in my eyes. He and that other dude weren't gonna shoot each other, but in their reality, they have guns. It's not illegal in the US to carry one, so like people driving without a Licence here, some guys are dumb and carry guns without papers. It's still a fucking gun though, licence or otherwise. We in the public lose our shit about it, but I doubt it was as big a deal in the room.

I love the fact that he is so damned honest. I think it's refreshing and respectable.

I support Gil still. Hell, his shit talking match when he played Stevenson in that 3 point contest, with one hand and beat him...... priceless. brought me back to when My best friend mike used to beat the shit out of me at one on one and tell me about it the ENTIRE time it was happening. Makes a man outta ya.

hahaha

I don't mind Arenas, but stories are one thing... yeah it was a dumb as shit thing he did. I highly doubt that he's seen so much worse in the lockerroom of his professional team... maybe he's heard worse, but he's making it sound like worse shit happens all the time. It's a little far-fetched. I don't need to have been a professional player to know what goes on in lockerrooms... it would just be more refreshing for him to say he did a dumbass thing, not downplay it like he shouldn't really be judged for doing it.

I don't disagree with you carp.
And I didnt mean you had to be at that level, just seen a bit at a lower level to maybe get the gist of how much worse it can be once you add, superstar ego into a room full of man-children with millions of bucks to spend.

anyhow.

He actually has said he was stupid on many occasions. Try to remember that the writer will print what he wants to....

well said... sometimes we forget stories on RF are not direct or exhaustive.... In my opinion, he should just ignore the question at this point anyways. Anybody looking for a great career opportunity, look no further than PR for NBA athletes... it's like these guys could really use the help. lol
