Cavs Anthony Parker retires

Great guy and one of my favorite Raptors for a couple years.

Quote:
As expected, veteran Cavaliers shooting guard Anthony Parker, 37, has decided to retire after a nine-year career in the NBA, the last three with Cleveland.
Parker averaged 7.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 51 games last season. More importantly, he provided leadership in the locker room, where he served as a mentor for youngsters Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson.
At the end of the season, Parker told reporters he was undecided about his future.
"I wanted to make that decision after the season and make sure that is what I wanted to do," he said in an email. "I'm at peace with it and excited for whatever the future has for me."
Parker, who was a first-round draft choice by New jersey in 1997, the 21st pick overall out of Bradley, also played with Philadelphia, Orlando and Toronto in the NBA, and was a huge star in Israel, where he played for Maccabi Tel Aviv. He wore No. 18 because it is the symbol associated with life and success in the Jewish faith.
Parker would like to remain involved in the league either through broadcasting or in a front-office role.
"Everything is on the table, so we'll see," he said in the email.

I have great respect for AP. We lost him to stupid miscommunication when signing Turkoglu, could've kept him
Lets get him on our staff!

I heard him on Tim and Sid the other day, well spoken man. He should take over on Raptors Broadcast as an analyst. He's familiar with the market and franchise. Also it gives a newer prospective from someone who has played the game in a more recent era than let's say um,Leo Rautins!

Plus Parker managed to score more than 1.5 points per game for his NBA career.

Hire him on NBA/RapsTv. He'd be better than most of the schmucks on there.

I was sorta hoping we'd sign him this year to play a few backup minutes and hit some more of those corner 3's...

How did Turk have anything to do with this?

He was a free agent and because we drafted DeMarr we chose not to resign him.

didn't we have to renounce AP in order to make the Turk deal go thru?

AP wanted a starting job and BC didn't want to give him that anymore so AP signed elsewhere....that's it.

Correct. We didn't have enough money so he went to Cleveland.

Few days later, we made that 3-team trade. I remember reading an article that if Parker waiting for the trade, the Raptors would have had enough money to sign him. Bummer.

IMO he would of been a perfect Mike Miller type of player on a solid team

We had many "cap holds " that year but to increase the offer to Turkoglu we had to renounce some of them with AP being one of them. I remember that BC was trying to leave enough room to re-sign AP - as he really wanted him back - but he had already tentatively signed with the Cavs. I remember a radio interview with BC where he said that it wasn't a done deal with him to the Cavs but the later that night or the next day it was too late and he signed with them.

I too, was hoping to have him back as a vet this year to mentor the younger guys, but I wish him all the best in retirement and hope he finds a job somewhere in basketball...preferably with us.

Yep, if we signed Tukoglu as free agent we'd have to renounce AP. Max we could offer AP then is vet minimum. So he agreed to sign with Cavs
But then BC worked his magic and turned the signing to a three team trade and we didn't renounce anybody

When AP first signed here, I had a lot of Jewish customers buying tickets just to see him play.

Def a fan favorite on both sides of the pond.
