Another NBA Franchise in Canada

Are there any plans for another NBA franchise?
Do you think there could be one?

I really miss the Grizzlies, the original ones.

Let's hope not. Vancouver sucked as a franchise, they were badly run and didn't have the support they needed from fans.

As for another city:

Montreal- God i hope not, plus i doubt they would support a basketball team.

Ottawa- This is not a big enough city to support another sport other than Hockey. The Senators almost left 5 years ago.

Ottawa would be my choice. I want a rivalry!

I used to live in Ottawa and it sucks as a sports town outside of Hockey. It isn't a big enough Market to support Hockey/Basketball when both play during the same time of the year. Not only that the Arena is out in the middle of nowhere.Wouldn't work.

Badly run? Definitely but it wasn't the city of Vancouver's fault the team was run out of town. Under the right leadership I definitely think basketball could thrive out in Western Canada.

As for Montreal and Ottawa, Montreal is all about their Canadiens and Alouettes and Ottawa is way to small of a market. I don't see Canada getting another NBA franchise anytime soon. :(

wow.

Vancouver was a great NBA city run by idiots.

bite your tongue

People actually went to those games, the team sucked and so did the management. NBA made a huge mistake of letting Memphis have the Grizzles when they were truly better of in VAncouver

Montreal could work given the correct marketing. Players would be aboslutely silly to not want to play there and considering the changing demographics of the city it could easily, easily support a franchise.

Vancouver, as I stated earlier, had a chance. The ownership group took support from fans for granted and instead of trying to improve the team they kept a status quo. Attendance figures went down though because, as is the case for all losing franchises, no one will support a team when they hardly win.

Gurk 09-06-2008 03:51 PM

We all supported the Raps when they weren't winning....

Or atleast I did

EazyBalla 09-06-2008 03:52 PM

What about Calgary or Edmonton? I think the next NBA Franchise to go down is Memphis, which i read in an article earlier in the summer.

Gurk 09-06-2008 03:54 PM

Yea that's true or it could be NJN. Especially if there "get LeBron to New Jersey" plan doesn't work. If LeBropn doesn't come I could expect no one coming to watch there games

The Nets are already moving to Brooklyn.

Honestly, i hate Montreal.I can't imagine an NBA team in that city at all. Just my opinion.

Dr. J. Naismith 09-06-2008 04:54 PM

Why do you hate Montreal though? Personally, I think its one of if not the most beautiful city in Canada. So multicultured too .... there's never a lack of things to do there. Its a shame that I'm not bilingual in the career I'm in because if I were I wouldn't think twice about moving to Montreal.

I'm french, and fluently bilingual and i wouldn't even consider moving there.Everytime i've gone there or anywhere in the province of Quebec for that matter it's usually been with a non french speaking person(s) and the way english speaking people are treated there is deplorable.

And as for it being a beautiful city.I think Vancouver is the most beautiful city in Canada by far.
