ughhh poor philly. they had such high hopes this year and it fell flat.
my question is the team doc's... how did they approve this? Bynum's knees sound fucked.

How can it be season-ending if the season never started for him.

Any GM that does deserves to be fired.

A 1-yr $6-8M deal would be about right until he proves that he can actually play.

At least Philly will have some good cap room to re-tool and go after someone else.

Not a chance. BC hates taking chances on players with bad knees + bad attitude. Get it out of your head.

about right in what sense? i think there would be many teams that would offer way more than that. 1 yr 6-8m -- even Greg Oden got offered that much.

Well to be fair, the bad attitude part is questionable.

Actually JO more refutes my theory on the bad knees than his attitude. lol

But in general especially when it comes to injured players, he will usually steer clear, especially in FA & drafts. The JO deal was a calculated risk.

Guys over here won't stop talking about getting Jermaine O'neil this summer. It's driving me nuts.

got traded probably.. they gave him up and they could've really used him when Sabonis retired the 1st time. now they need a center again, both a starter and a backup. i can imagine the chatter...

imagine if Charlie-V became a superstar after the trade. he'd be mentioned on this board at every opportunity.

And Oden should serve as a cautionary tale here.... then you add in Bynum's bad attitude and spotty work ethic?

Again... I think a GM would be insane to give him a 4 yr. deal at $10M+/yr.

I think Oden at 7-8 mil or whatever he got last year was a reasonable gamble. I don't think Portland is crying about it or looking at it as a cautionary tale. You have to take those risks.

Bynum has been much healthier and better than Oden overall. So, the question is what's the smart gamble here. It's hard to know without actually being a doctor. But I bet that every single team in the league would offer much more than 1 year 6-8 mil (i mean, assuming they had cap space).

Oden would have been a better player than Bynum. Bynum had a few years trainning with Kareem. Before Oden's last injury he was averaging 11 and 9 also a little over 2 blocks a game shooting 60%. If he remained healthy and played 30 mins a game there is no question he could have put up at least 19 and 12 the season after. Oden was very coachable from what I've heard and he didn't have attitude problems like Bynum.

I think you are talking about Oden's pre-draft expectations. We are talking about the summer after Oden's rookie contract, when he got 7-8 mil / 1 year qualifying offer. Or are you saying that if you had to choose, you'd rather take Oden after his first 4 years than Bynum now?

*edit actually it was 8.9 mil, not 7-8

Well I'm not sure about EVERY team... but you could be right.... Miami for example could afford to have him sit for as long as he needs to get healthy.

I'd just hate to see another team like Philly get screwed is all.
